Prophet Muhammad’s Letter to Christians. Did you know about this Muslims and christians?

In 628 C.E. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) granted a Charter of Privileges to the monks of St. Catherine Monastery in Mt.Sinai. It consisted of several clauses covering all aspects of human rights including such topics as the protection of Christians, freedom of worship and movement, freedom to appoint their own judges and to own and maintain their property, exemption from military service, and the right to protection in war.

Letter to the Monks of St. Catherine Monastery

This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them.

Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold out against anything that displeases them. No compulsion is to be on them. Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries. No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims’ houses. Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God’s covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate. No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight. The Muslims are to fight for them. If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray. Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants. No one of the nation (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the Last Day (end of the world).”

Update:

Malak: Covenant till the Last Day (end of the world).

Have you explained that to the Christians that helped Iraq govern through the ages and are now being chased off the land.

They seem to be wondering why so many of them are being killed. Iraq is the only home they ever knew and now the Muslims don't want them around. Why not admit that Muslims don't follow Muhammad anymore and have created their own new and improved version.

Why with all the guns in Iraq are they still making swords?

No, I didn't but it makes sense, and is supported by other information that I have read and believe.

66:33 And the wife of Mohammed, whose name was Khadija, was particular to the Christian faith and would encourage Mohammed to visit the Christian church and learn of their ways. Nevertheless, he did not know of a surety in himself which of the many religious beliefs was the true belief of God.

66:34 And because of the confusion of the different sects that were among the people, Mohammed became depressed in the Spirit, this having been the plan of the Lord at the time that Mohammed was ready to be called to his foreordained calling as a prophet of the Lord.

It is a shame that humans fight over who has the truth and forget the basic foundation of all things---reality.

"The only ones who have known true reality and can teach it properly are those whom others have so named “prophets of God:”

“Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7)

These prophets were not received or appreciated by the religions of the world, and science would have nothing to do with their simple message of what the human race needs to do to find the peace and happiness it desires.

Whether their message of truth was given in the Orient by the Buddha, the Middle East by Mohammed, to the ancient Greeks by Socrates, or to the arrogant Jews by a young man who owned nothing and was killed because he spoke against the religion to which he and his family belonged, the message remains the same: in order to realize peace and happiness, we must do unto others what we would want them to do unto us—nothing more, nothing less." p.190

The samrules applied up through the Middle Ages too, and were upheld by the Caliphs. I'm glad somebody finally posted something showing that the true Islam is not the same one we see on the news everyday.

I remember when I was first learning about Islam as a child. ( many, many, many years ago) the book I read said that Muslims were the new people of the book. I thought this was a good thing then. Even though we have our differences I think there is much we could learn from each other.

Why would anyone trust a Moslem. Especially their founder. After all he said it was ok to lie to Christians and others, if it advanced the causeof Islam.

When one particular Christian city in Syria surrendered to him, he murdered the men, enslaved the women, and raise the children as Moslems. He was a cheat, a fruad, and evil man of the worst kind. Saddam Hussain was a Sunday School child in comparison to him.

    Thanks for this valuable information.

All humans are born from one couples.this is accepted by all religion.then why they make fight among them.

The god like the man who forgive his enemy and try to make him as a friend.

The all prophets especially muhammad are given the information for to make the pray to god. but now we fogot that and make fight with others.this is truely not make a peace.

We can think many things about the earth, planet and other god creation. but now most of the people think negatively.the positive thinking only gives the +ve result.

Thanks & jasakkallahu for to share this to yours

I skipped whatever you were typing because it was too long. You have to realize Muhammed's sister in law was a christian and there was Jewish tribes all around Arabia which influenced his religion: Islam.

I think what Senita said was a case of bigotry because Bigots have tiny minds. Such bigotry isn't necessary in today's world.

This needs to be circulated around more. It is a definite contradiction to the beliefs held by fanatical Muslims.

I don't know that much about the other side of the coin, unusual letter, don't know what to think of it except to think that he was a peaceful man, not like what we are seeing from some of his followers today.

There are other letter too. I know abt them. Christians and Jews lived happily under Muhammad's rule. Even Saladin, the guy who defeated the crusaders let the Christians go unlike them who massacred the Muslim and Jews.
