Will I ever need glasses?

Everybody in my family has glasses with the exception my mum's youngerst brother. My brother got glasses when he was 15. I am going on 26 and I think my eyes are still going strong. What is the probability of my ever needing glasses?

Update:

I am a truck driver, hardly sit on the computer for a prolonged amount of time

Now that you are 26 your vision probably will not fluctuate too much through your adulthood.

The sad thing for you and everyone is yes.... you will eventually need correction (glasses/contacts) for reading when you are between the ages 35-45, this is when you will begin to notice it! This is called presbyopia, it happens to everyone and it involves our crystalline lens inside our eye loosing its ability to focus for near distances. This gets progressively gets worse until our late 50's early 60's.... this is when we loose all of our focusing ability for near and intermediate distances.

It is likely you will still see great for distances like driving but you will need correction to see computer screens, read maps/books, any type of close work really.

This is just a natural part of aging and there is nothing you can do to prevent it or slow its progression.

Anyways hope this helps a bit :)

like stephaniefire said, you needing glasses doesn't have anything to do with genes. However, a pattern may occur in needing glasses because your relatives may have had a common reason for needing glasses. They may have all go to television screens or computer screens or even reading too close, or some other thing.

Your eyes are pretty strong, so what are you so worried about? You may have a slight chance when you're much older since people may lose their eye sight as they grow really old, but that probably is the closest to needing glasses.

There's no probability because everyone's genes are different. Maybe you'll get glasses, maybe you won't. Sadly, most folks in their 40s end up getting reading glasses because of presbyopia , which is the "the gradual loss of the eye's ability to change focus from distance to near; occurs in almost everyone sometime after age 40."

Right now, eat healthy, exercise, get sleep, blah blah blah, and just take good care of your eyes because they're a great way to see the world! ;) haha

Well, you will probably get to the point where you will get presbyopia when you are 40 or so. This is where you lose some of your ability to focus, and it might result in you needing reading glasses (or bifocals, as time goes on). But that is normal aging, so don't get worried about it.

This happens to most adults, so you won't be alone if you do get presbyopia. .

If you live to be 40 or so the probability of your needing glasses is 100%. When you get to be 'middle aged' your eyes have trouble focussing up close. So even if your eyes are perfect now, you'll need glasses for reading when you get older.

usually needing glasses isnt something that runs in the family.

its the part of having good or bad eyes.

if you sit and stare at the computer all day, then your eyes will get worse.

but if ur eyes are strong and good now then you should need glasses.
