Question about growing cucumber plants. See Details...?

I have cucumbers growing in my garden (first year for this garden at all as it is newly cut) and my cucumber plants are growing great. BUT, I noticed that the cucumbers that are growing in the center of the plant are growing like balls instead of growing long. Is this normal? I straightened the vines out to give the vegies more light hoping that will help instead of having it all bunched up. What else can I do for these? Otherwise, the other cucumbers are growing well, the ones where I have already straightened out the vines. Any good advise?

No problem! They're fine! I have some like that and I have 28 plants, some on trellis some on the ground. There's always some little morphs somewhere, but you can still eat them. Cut them up with some fresh toamto and white onion slices and cover them in Ranch dressing, Mmmmm good!

Yes, I have an organic vege patch. I wanted to grow stuff without chemicals so I cleared a large square in my backyard and planted vegetables. I've got cabbage, celery, carrots, potatoes, silverbeet, string beans, tomatoes, lettuce, spring onions and turnips. To stop all the bugs getting into the veges, I've also planted lavender around the whole square (natural bug deterrent). In the rest of the yard I also have a few fruit trees, one lemon, one orange, a peach and a plum tree! No animals though - I live inner-city! Good luck growing your own food - its a bit hard to get started but so rewarding afterwards!!

The first few ones will grow like that.Sometimes to strong a soil will cause that.Like I mixed animal waste with soil. They grew crazy at first till the soil went normal.
