why is my puppy acting strange?

my new puppy[who is about eleven weeks old], has not been eating a whole lot since we got him. that was about 2 weeks ago.

everytime my mom shows him his food, he tries to tip it over.

or, the weirdest thing is, he eats a little thing, and then rubs his mouth on the floor.

why is he doing this, and how can i fix it?

by the way, we are fostering and have not adopted him yet.

if that makes any difference.

=]

Update:

we give him some rice, some sort of meat, whether it be chicken or beef, and htne somme small amount of puppy food.

he did just get over diarreah, and he drinks a fair amount of water.

i suggested to my mom that we bring him to the vet, but she insists it's not that serious.

If he is a playful happy puppy, still having normal bowel movements and urinating regularly, I would not worry. My puppy, who is 7 months old now, still does not eat alot at a time. She has alot to do apparently and is afraid she is going to miss something. She does drink plenty of water and is constantly begging for any morsel we will give her of our food. So I know she is perfectly fine. If the puppy seems sluggish, and just not puppy like, I would ask the vets opinion. But as long as she is eating, and the food is available and she is still gaining wieght. I would say she is good.

Oh and one more thing.... Someone adviced you to change the food. If you do, add a little of the new food to the old food. Slowly add a little more new, and less old as days go by. Don't change it all at once. This might cause the puppies stomache to be upset.

The food may be too hot, it may be to hard, the dog may not like the food. You might try to get the puppy used to eating by hand feeding a couple of bits; perhaps this will entice him. Try changing the food, and if store bought doesn't work, boil some chicken in water and cut it into small bits. Is the dog drinking? Having bowel movements? If the dog is not drinking or having bowel movements he should be brought to the vet for a check up immediately as it's serious when a puppy refuses food. Good luck.

Maybe he doesn't like the food. Maybe because of his breed, you wants more meat or less. Maybe he isn't use to eating from a bowl. Maybe he wants to be hand feed. It could be a number of things. Is he teething? Maybe he likes soft food. You can try taking him to one of those specialty pet shops that sell raw dog food and sell clothing and stuff. They should give you little bags of sample food to try with the puppy. Whatever he eats right away, he'll probably eat for a while.

Hmm, I'm not really sure why he is doing that or how you can fix it, but if it helps, I usually sprinkle a little bit (not too much) of parmesan cheese over the food, and my puppy will eat it then. Good luck!

He probably just has to get used to you & your family. Try to find out what he liked to eat before you got him. Any way he will eventually begin to eat on his own & it takes him awhile to get manners!!
