why is it, that some ppl who claim 2 have proven high I.Q.'s be so lacking in common sense?

or did i just answer my own question. I live with one, and he is incredibly smart, but so dumb (and i mean this loveingly). How is this possible? Have u ever experienced this? I remember an old saying something about " when the lord takes something away (lets say sight) he gives something else in return" so if god gives to much intellegence, do u think it possible he take away "Common" sense?

Of course it's possible! You can't be intelligent in everything. Being book smart is different from having common sense.

Everyone has a talent. Some people may make C's in school, but they are incredibly socially skilled. Others may have a 4.0 GPA, and yet not have the slighest clue about the real world.

Plus, if you're sticking your nose in books and academics all the time...who has time to learn about other things?

The level of intelligence is far different than cognitive and executive functioning (smarts vs. common sense). This is the reason mentally ill individuals are denied services. The person can be totally cognitively disabled but can be articulate, charming and intelligent. Yet... they can't balance their finances, remember or even find their way to an appt. etc etc.

There are different sections of the physical brain that govern intelligence and common sense! One area may be stronger than the other.

Well, for starters, they don't have classes in common sense.

It's a learn-ed response from life situations, and hereditary in the sense that parents have a big impact.

But how can they know about life skills, when they are absorbed in a book on the life cycles of Samoan green tortoises?

Take it where you can get it, 'cause that's all you get. YOU can't change it. A bit sad, but try to focus on the good traits, and be happy with that, or move on to greener pastures.

Some people, such as those whom are gifted, are very intelligent but use their brains in a slightly different way. It can be that the person focuses on one thing too much, or spreads their focus out over too many things. Then they seem forgetful...it could also mean that what is important to you may not be as important to your boyfriend...he probably has his own mind which should not be expected to work just like yours.

Common sence is tested in very few clinical intelligence tests and is considered by some to be of very little importance when measuring intelligence. I for one have taken an intelligence test and my IQ turned out to be 130 yet I consider myself to lack an average amount of common sense. Perhaps the existance of objective knowledge handicaps ones ability to practice common sense sometimes.

Those with high levels of intelligence literally

prioritize what they believe is important to them and not what may be important to those of lesser

intelligence. This may come off as being "quaint"

    or lacking in common sense.

this strategy seems to work fairly well, as others tend to make make sure they are fed and wear matching socks, and pull them in out of the rain.

It's hard to remember to pay bills while pondering E-Mc2 that is, energy = mass times speed of light squared, helping to prove splitting of the atom,

energy and mass are the same thing and you cannot destroy E, only transform it to mass. Soon time travel will result from the equation as we come closer to defining black holes. Now, where's my

shoes?!! What? ONe brown and one black? What the hell??

That's just the difference between "knowledge" and "wisdom".

You can retain a lot of information (knowledge) but if you don't know how to use it (wisdom) you're just a bimbo with a high I.Q.
