What does one need to transfer VHS tapes to DVD? Must one pay a fortune for the equipment?

No. There are DVD/VCR combos out there that let you do it all on one unit. Have been on the market for several years now, and can probably get for a little more than a hundred bucks.

There are some somewhat inexpensive products that will rip a VHS to a digital format. Check out any electronics store. I'm pretty sure that Frys would have something like that.
Also, some DVD/VHS combo players also have the option to record DVD from VHS, which may also work out for you. Never know, they might be cheaper than some other equipment. Definitely worth looking into, though.

One must need a VCR to play VHS tapes, a computer with Video input capabilities, software that records the video onto the computer and converts it into DVD format, and a DVD burner.
Not a fortune, I happen to have that hook up. And the only thing costly is the computer and it has all of the above(except the VCR)

i think u can get those done at wal mart or one of the big stores for like 20 bucks each.
