Got an email that wanted me to update a paypal account, I looked at the details?

The IP address you gave 69.13.33.243 shows that it's coming out of Arlington, TX. It's not clear if it's coming from a company or a personal location, so use caution.

1) If you get an email from Paypal or ebay that does not address you by your full name in the body of the email, be suspicious.

2) Also, if you hover your mouse over the link, you should see an URL in the lower left hand corner of the screen showing where the link actually goes. If it doesn't state paypal.com or ebay.com, don't click on it.

3) Finally, be sure to report the email to Paypal and/or ebay. I get those types of phishing emails all the time but my webmail services are smart enough to automatically place them in my Junk mail folder.

Don't do it. I got this same thing about a month ago and it actually looks official.....I contacted paypal and they confirmed that it was a hoax. What they NEED to do now is to send out a "broadcast" email to paypal members to let them know that this scam is going on. They thanked me for sending them the info......but it makes me concerned to pay using that method in the future.....mainly because they didn't really notify others that this was going around....YOU are the example of that.....

We get so many "scare" virus warnings.....you would think that paypal would want us to be aware and on guard for any more of this nonsense.

first have you ever done buissness with the company? If not then I would think it was a scam. You could try emailing them back and asking why. If the email comes from a personal email (aol hotmail yahoo any of those) then its almost cerntaly a scam. They may not want your computer but the money in your paypal account.

Paypal will never ask you to update anything. If you click on the link or enter any info after clicking the link the scammers will now have your password, social security #, credit card #'s, etc if you give it to them.

It's called a phishing scam. If you ever feel you need to update something in paypal just surf over to paypal.com yourself and login. Do NOT ever click on a link in an email.

dont ever update your acount through an email link they send these out all the time and its not from paypal. always open your browser and type in paypal and then see if you have a need to update your acount. from what you describe that email was deff not from paypal.

Never, ever answer any message sent to your email address from paypal or ebay, just foreword it on to spoof@paypal or spoof@ebay and they will almost immediately send back to you information if this message actually originated from them, most every time it won't and your checking account information will be compromised. If ebay or paypal send you a message you can find it when you sign into your account on their website, just NEVER, EVER answer one sent to your email address!!!!!

You should go to the pay pal account straight from your search bar not through the link in the a-mail

go to paypals web site directly do not use the email link. just go direct and then to your account info. if it is a real email it will be shown there too.

I also just got an update notice also got a denial for a business certificate from ebay i didn't apply for one be careful i think someone was trying to get all of this by using my old outdated account name even my old password was changed if you find out whats going on please let me know i am suzypjs2000@yahoo.com thank you
