Anyone know about how much sugar is in coleslaw?

Question

Found out I was diabetic (at least borderline and on meds now) so watching all sugar content.  Can't find ANY estimates on how many g's of sugar is in an average serving of coleslaw.. only recipes for it..   (even asked lady at the WM deli yesterday and she had no idea) Thanks

It all depends on how carrots in it affect you! and the dressing recipe!

Cabbage is a cruciferous vegetable. As such it is a really negative carb! Meaning it won't make your sugar levels go up.

Carrots in the Cole Slaw will make my sugar levels go up in spite of the cabbage content.

Most people add a lot of sugar to their Cole Slaw dressings. Use only Mayonnaise and lemon juice and it will be a totally neutral food! You may eat your fill of totally neutral foods.

It all depends on the type of dressing used. Read the bottle. If it's from a fast food place you can get a book that gives the calories, fat, fiber carbs and sugar. or if you have the recipe figure out each ingredient and then divide it by the servings. Best books I have found for eating out is Weight Watchers and best for carbs is Dr. Atkins' Carbohydrate Gram Counter (about $4.95).

If you make your own dressing, use Splenda instead of sugar.  Problem solved.  A lot of it depends on who makes it, how much sugar they put in it and how much is used.  So each place and serving will be different.

130 grams of KFC coleslaw has 18 grams of sugar
113 grams of Long John Silver's has 10 grams
Mine has none.
Others vary according to who makes them.
