What to expect from your gov't after a disaster!?
So you've had a disaster in your hometown and you're expecting help from the gov't because you're a US citizen and you pay taxes, right? Read this article about New Orleans 2 years (8/29/2005) after Katrina. And please note that this doesn't even cover the events on the MS Gulf Coast where whole towns (like Waveland and Bay St. Louis, Pass Christian) were completely wiped out! There is NOTHING...it's just sad, sad, sad. Please read and pass it on. It might be you one of these days. Godloveya.

I think the restructuring of FEMA done by President Bush had alot to do with it's failures. It was far more successful prior to his cronyism and merging it with Homeland Security.
Remember the devastation of Hurricane Andrew and the North Ridge earthquake ? Incompetence did not reign supreme under the old hierarchy.
Also Bill Clinton made the Director of FEMA a Cabinet Level Position , which answered directly to the President.
Bush dismantled all of that and hence the system failed when disaster struck.
He hired unqualified " Brownie" who answered to somebody , who answered to somebody and that's no way to run an emergency situation.
Preparedness is ALL about who you put in charge, and like it or not this country did not choose wisely.
This Administration has politely turned it's back on New Orleans never following thru only showing up for photo ops that serve their own political purposes.
This Administration is allowing one of our greatest cities to die right in front of our eyes.

What's sad is people expect the govt to help....that's why they are still in a state of disrepair.
1906 earthquake(San Fransisco) they rebuilt the city in 3 days after it was almost totally destroyed..no fema.
Before fema , disaster areas took care of themselves and were successful in rebuilding.
Right now there are too many helping hands and everything is a mess because of it.
