As with any game, it is important to agree on the rules prior to playing. The Scrabble(R) rules that come with the game suggest selecting an agreed upon source for judging the validity of words played, and using that source to adjudicate challenges.

In North American tournament Scrabble, the validity of words is adjudicated using the Official Word List - 2nd edition, or OWL2 (School Scrabble uses an abridged list with words deemed offensive removed). REJUMP does not appear in OWL2. HAMMERER does. There are many verbs (and other words) in the OWL2 that accept "RE-" at the beginning, 4,449 in all (courtesy of Zyzzyva software - free at www.zyzzyva.net). There are 2,794 words that take "-ER" at the end (ibid).

Many tournaments now use Zyzzyva or another computer program to adjudicate challenged words. It's simple and effective, because you just type the word(s) in and hit the Tab key, and the program tells you whether or not the play is acceptable. It's also a fair way to judge words on your own, without a player having the opportunity to scan nearby words that might make a good substitute play to a phony that gets challenged off of the board.

I hope this helps. Keep playing Scrabble! And, if you're interested, check out the local club and tournament Scrabble scene in your area. Both can be found at www.scrabble-assoc.com.

Re-jump should have a hyphen (try it with the spell-check on here) therefore is not allowed.

The solution to this is to have a dictionary on the table when you start the game, and agree that any words not in it are not allowed.

Even this is not a full solution, as reassemble is not in the dictionary that is in front of me at the moment, although it is a word in common usage.

I suppose that the only real answer is to have a referee who is not playing the game.

It would depend on the word. "Rejump" is not in the Scrabble Dictionary.

I am going to go into a little more detail.

You can play anything you want, however your opponent may challenge the word and if it is not in the dictionary you are using, you take your play of the board and lose your turn.

Playing "Phoneys" is a accepted part of high level (that is tournament) play
