Is "sweating out" an illness effective?

Update:

I'll be a little more precise- I play three high school sports and whenever I get like a cold, or I'm getting over the flu, or step throat, I sometimes feel a little better after a practice or a game. What I want to know is: Does athletic activity help your body deal with an illness?

It is effective in stimulating the body to cool itself when you have a fever. But for getting rid of an illness? I'm not so sure about that...
