Well I'd rather pay for their food than the benefit scroungers! At least the police work.

The Police regulations(Law) gives Police Officer certain allowances to purchase food if he is kept on unexpectedly or forced to work at a different Police station.. Many years ago this was anything up to £12. If there is a Police canteen available he can't claim anything.
In the absence of any law change you might find that the canteen is actually saving you money!

Does it matter?
Considering the abuse of spending public funds, I think the Police canteen is a pretty low priority.
With the behavior of drunken yobs in Lancs I think those who have to deal with them are entitled to a square meal on the rate payer.
