Need to keep uninstalling and reinstalling network adapter after each reboot?

After I reinstalled Windows XP Pro, I have a problem with the network adapter.

When I try to open the dialer to my ADSL connection, I get error 769. I need to open My Computer - > Manage -> Device Manager, uninstall the network adapter (D-Link DE-528 Ethernet PCI Adapter), search for new hardware (Windows correctly finds the Ethernet adapter and installs the driver), then I need to configure the Local Area Connection for the ADSL connection. I also keep getting failures when I try to reinstall Norton Antivirus that are related to the network conections (I forget the exact message; it's on my home machine).

I tried updating the drivers for the netowrk card but it didn't help.

Is there any solution, other than replacing the network card? Would that even help?

No , they should remain installed.

Maybe the card is not seated correctly.

Uninstall all Dlink software using add/ remove programs

uninstall the card in device mgr

While your PC is off take the pci card out and put it back in and make sure it is all the way in.

While your at it - try swapping out the pci port it is in. Put it in another one just incase the problem is the pci port.

    Then try reinstalling the software.

Uninstall the network card and Norton.

As the first poster suggested, re-check that the network card is seated securely, and maybe try a different slot.

Reinstall the network adapter first, and test it out. Reboot to make sure the configuration sticks.

    Then reinstall Norton.

If all of that fails then yes, try replacing it.

You need to get back into the DeviceManager and enable the device you disabled. Then reboot the computer and the drivers should get reinstalled.
