For habitual Askers: Do you get 3 points back if your Q is resolved by votes?
This is an experimental question.
First, I appreciate all the Answers from experienced Askers.
Second, I will deliberately put this Q to the public vote, to check whether the Asker gets +3 points when a Q is resolved by votes, just like when they choose the BA (that's the way this worked the last time I did this, many months ago).
Thanks in advance for your input.
Special thanks to Moon! This is the kind of Answer I was looking for... I hope the voters remember that, LOL
Well, we're getting close to the expiration and to finally get the answer!
Special thanks to DM, Todvango, and Sky for the input, and to the rest who expressed an interest and starred the Q.
I'm going ot the forum now, to see if there's any official response in sight...
Last Update!
I got an official response in the forum http://suggestions.yahoo.com/detail/?prop=answers&...

Therefore, and considering that I will still have +3 points back, I'm putting this to the public vote, and thus you all can get some extra points from Voting.
Thanks again everyone! :-)

Yes, you do.
I wish I didn't know the answer for this question, as I like to close all my questions, and to thank not only who gave me the best answer, but all who took the time to answer.
But, unfortunately, these last couple of weeks, I couldn't come here in time to close some of my questions, because I was dealing with serious health problems in my family. They went to vote and, yes, I got three points for each, when they were resolved by the votes of the community.
I wrote notes at the comment box of each question, apologizing for what happened, and thanking all the people who answered, hope they could understand!
Edit: I'm sure I did get the points. Maybe they changed something about this, lately? I don't know how it was before, because I never let any of my questions go to vote.
Edit 2: Oh, great to see I'm not the only one who got the points, so I'm not dreaming...

I hope someone really keeps close track of this issue. I had the same problem as Moon at one point -- and my question went to voting. I did NOT receive the 3 points as far as I am aware. Also, there is NO mention anywhere in the scoring or help sections that says we get points for that. Only that we get 3 back if WE choose the Best Answer.

ooooo... I'm Coo-Coo (and habitual!) for experiments...
Over my tenure here at Y!A (15 months), I've tested this concept (whether the Asker gets +3 points when a Q is resolved by votes) a few times.
The results were "BOTH"
Received the +3 points
Did not Receive the +3 points
Just how do the Yamsters have the algorithm parameters setup presently? We're about to find out.
I hope that you'll post your finding in the comment section as soon as this question is resolved.
Off-Topic Tidbit...
I'll speculate that most users don't change the default "Show:" view on answers.
And since this answer is down the list view at #11, it has little chance to get voted B/A. (not that it's worthy)

You are not "supposed" to get the three points unless you pick the best answer yourself. But, like many many things on the Yahoo Answers site, what works correctly one week, is screwed up the next...

("Dad's" position on the above question got him "best answer" and is quite different from what he had to say this time. So, what's changed your mind, "Dad"?)
I have seen this as recently as a few days ago when my one stepson said he had totally forgotten about a question. (He heard me griping that so few people actually do pick their own best answers.) He logged in to check on it, and sure enough, it had expired, gone to a vote, and had been resolved and YEP, he got three points!
That's too bad really, because I always thought the three points was supposed to be an incentive for the asker to resolve his/her own question.
Please let us all know how it pans out for you.

EDIT: To DM below, thanks for the link! I encourage you all to check it out. Two different people from Yahoo responded to the comment and they didn't even agree with each other! I am at a loss... No wonder things act so crazy around here sometimes.
- How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

Actually, Moon is incorrect. You do NOT get 3 points back if your question goes into voting. You only get the points back if you choose best answer yourself.
Choosing best answer yourself: 3 points
Question voted as No best answer: 5 points
Best answer chosen by voters: 0 Points
G'luck on your experiment!
EDIT: wow, lots of confusion here, it seems like at this point Y!A does award you points, though that isn't their rule originally since in the points table it says you get 3 points ONLY for choosing a BA yourself.

When you put it to a vote yourself you get the three points. I think when you allow it to lapse and the community votes you don't. I know, I have had to put a couple of my questions to a vote when I was going to be out of town when the period was up. I always got the three points when those were resolved. But the ones that lapsed, I didn't.

I always thought you only got the 3 points back if you CHOSE the BA.
I guess we'll have to wait the question & vote out to find out the answer.
(I hope you get an "official" Y!A team member answer, but I would continue the experiment regardless)
luv your 'tutorial' btw

I think you only get the 3 points if YOU select the best answer, not if it's put to a vote.

i do no longer think of they should get their 3 factors. i think of while somebody places their question to vote, that's taking the straight forward way out. I could be attentive to because of the fact I enable a brilliant form of my questions pass into vote casting.

I ask very few questions, and I try to always choose the best answer myself. I am curious how this turns out. I'll check back later.
