Why are so many things considered sins?

When you compare the list of things a fundamentalist would consider a sin compared to things that are against the law, which list would be longer?

Like gambling. Most fundies say that gambling is a sin, but try to find one Bible verse that condemns gambling. You can't find it!

Sin is not just the things that God hates, it's the things that pull us away from him. It does not say in the bible that gambling is a sin, but if you become addicted to anything, it becomes your god, and our God is a jealous one. A lot of laws are based on peoples interpretations of The ten commandments. Most are set up for our protection, from ourselves if you will. And to answer your question I would say the list of laws would be longer.....

The "sin" list would be longer.

The Bible says to "live by the law of the land" - so if you break the law - you are sinning.

But many will tell you that things that are not against the law - are sins...

    consumption of alcohol

    pre-marital sex

    homosexuality

    etc.

So - the list of sins - of course - would be longer.

Jesus only gave us 2 commands: to love Him and to love others. That's it.

As someone else posted, not everything that people believe to be sins are. Such as gambling. The apostle Paul wrote that we can do all things, but not all things are profitable. In other words, there are things that we shouldn't do, such as gambling, because it's not best for us. Better to save our $$ or use it for our needs then to throw it away. That makes it common sense, not a sin.

The lack of understanding of a few Christians repels me. And specific, i'm a Christian. i'm a hundred% born lower back- i think in Jesus Christ all a thank you to the middle of my soul. to a pair degree, i will comprehend your and human beings's anger and frustration. With the way human beings arise on a soapbox and spew forth hate as they do, that is little ask your self that Christians finally end up being so reviled. it is the actuality: God loves gay human beings. He purely won't be able to stand sin. purely being a gay man or woman isn't a sin in and of itself. specific, it particularly is a sin to fornicate. specific, it particularly is a sin to act upon an impulse to have intercourse with a member of the comparable intercourse. yet while each physique is born gay (and specific, i think of that could be a possibility that some are), that is absurd to hold them in charge for his or her options- in the event that they are born gay, they have not got any determination. somebody else above alluded to the actuality that each and all of us sins are equivalent in God's eyes. that's the actuality. yet needless to say, human beings discriminate while it involves sin. some human beings %. and choose which "sins" they deem to be the main repugnant, and then they scapegoat human beings. It additionally says contained in the Bible that we're not to call every person fools. you're entitled on your emotions. yet please comprehend that no longer all Christians are so flagrantly ignorant and narrow minded.

Because a sin is wrong thinking or a wrong understanding of what actually is. All wrong thinking is not against the law... just the most repugnant.

The short answer is: religion -- particularly fundamentalist religion -- only works if you're too busy feeling guilt and self-loathing to actually THINK about what you're being indoctrinated with and realize what a bunch of hokum it is.

  • That's why it's called "the straight and narrow path". There's a definite reason why Jesus paid for our sins; it's because we aren't perfect and keep sinning due to the very many things which are sins.

Sin is anything that God hates. A Christian doesn't have a choice in the matter. In his relationship with God, God points out the things that He hates and a true Christian will hate them also. Those things that God points out are always something in an individual's personal life, in his thoughts and intentions.

It is not a list, when you give your heart to Jesus, you love Him and when you love someone, it is not hard to please them. it has never been about a list of things, that you cannot do.

If it takes you away from God and doesn't glorify Him, then it is considered sin.
