Late 90's Movie? Not Man in the Iron Mask. What was it?

Movie had a family in a nice home in a costal town. Man covers his face because of injury. His friend introduces him to a girl he is ******* and the guy falls in love with her. Then gets upset because he finds her ******* his friend who introduced them. What is the name of this film?

    I've got no clue.. but it is NOT, .. not even CLOSE to Man without a face.. the mask either.. Any idea of the genre? The plot shares themes with the phantom of the opera, so my guess would be the horror version of that.. (the one with Robert Englund from the 80's)
