Body Armor - Always good to continue innovation but its necessary to remember it is only a tool which "may" stop incoming rounds. See Tactics and Training.

Weapons - I think, other than budgetary issues, weapons are exceptionally ahead of the curve because of the demand for the civilian market. No innovation needed here.

Non-Lethal (Less than lethal) - Enough is enough in this category. Taser pretty much has the best idea. If it could be deployed at a longer distance without wires (akin to their new shotgun round), then that would be a step forward. This area has already seen all the innovation it needs.

Communications - Just like weapons, because of the needs of the military and civilian market, communications are in no need of an immediate innovation.

Tactics and Training - While these change all the time to evolve with chaning times, I can see no groundbreaking innovation that can be done here.

Vehicles - Same as weapons and communications.

Where innovation is most needed, and impending due to the technological boom of the last couple decades, is in information systems coupled with video systems for facial recognition, immediate print analysis and identification, and other trend tracking systems. Equipment has leveled off... information technology for law enforcement is where it will be at...
