15 yr old son refuses to go to swim class?
my son is in a private school where swimming class is required. Also required is a lycra (speedo type) swimsuit. He says he won't wear it. I think it is a body/shyness thing.
should I force him, or should I write a note about some skin disease or something to excuse him, as he has suggested?
help please.
I can sort of sypathize. I would have done anything to get out of wearing shorts in gym when I was in high school.

I would talk to the instructor. I'm sure that it is not the first time that someone has been hesitant to wear the Speedo. Hopefully, he or she can give you some guidance how on to either convince your son to stay with the class or information on alternative programs.

I would challenge the school's requirement of the speedo. That's a dumb requirement and there is no safety reason for requiring it. I was a lifeguard for 6 years and I can tell you that a speedo is no safer than anything else. A standardized surfshort would be just as acceptable. Don't lie for your son (it sets a rather bad example, don't you think?) but don't force him to go either. What will they do? Kick him out of school?
It's a private school- you pay for it, right? You have the right to question the school's rules. Get obnoxious if you need to do so. My parents went to the school board several times on my behalf and I turned out just fine, and other kids benefited from my family's rule challenging. See what you can do. Your son can't possibly be the only 15 year old boy who hates wearing a speedo.

you may desire to locate out precisely why he's so against it. Does it stem from the swimming, or the human beings he would be swimming with? through fact if he could extremely be remoted from the the remainder of the class and misinform all and sundry by ability of claiming he has a faux pores and skin concern, there is a few thing heavily frightening him right here which you would be able to desire to help him paintings even with the undeniable fact that. And neither forcing him to pass to swim classification or letting him out of it is going to shelter that concern.

I would just talk to the instructor and explain that your son will be wearing regular swim short or he will not participate. That is not a crazy request to ask.... If the instructor wants him to participate then he will be fine with it, if not go to the principal. A speedo is crazy for a 15 year old in school!!!!!

Let me tell u a little story about a fat boy
He was going to buy his swim suit but when he saw it was just red speedoed he didnt mind. But when he saw the hat, he refused to wear it. But he was forced, so he cut it cut it up and said he lost it. But one day his friend was looking for something the boy said he could borrow in his bad, when he saw the cut hat. He didnt want to be snitch but decided to report it anyway. And that boy got in deep trouble and that boy was me.
FORCE HIM TO WEAR IT BECAUSE SOONER OR LATER THEY ARE GOING TO FIND OUT THERE IS NO SKIN DEASIES!

i think you should be on your sons side. weather if he's embarrassed of his wight or lack of muscle, or even size of his....man-hood, (assuming the lycra is tight) I'm not sure, but certainly with today's standers of the way a body is supposed to look, he (as well as most guys) probably don't have the 6-pack and huge bicept, and he may feel awkward, so if i were you I'd just make his life a little easier and see what you can do to get him out of it.

i think he should wear whatever he feels comfortable in.
tell the instructor this. if the teacher is really teaching because he cares about kids and he wants them to learn he'll understand.
the body shyness thing could just be age, its normal

I wouldn't want to wear that in front of my peers. I'm bigger and I think it would be really embarrassing. My self esteem would go down the drain and I would dread going to that class.

yes if your son is uncomfortable, it is your job as the parent to get him out of it. but dont lie. tell the school that you do not want your son in a regular bathingsuit or out of the class. tell them that if they dont, you will pull him out and send him to (insert rival school here). they will because 1. they dont wanna lose your money and 2. dont want their rival school getting your money.
