Muslims, why is your ENGLISH translations of your Quran, in the language of good ol' King James?

Do you mean that the English translations use an older form of English? I don't know, ask the translators. I have one idea, though.... using a form of English that stands out makes one notice that they are reading something very special, and not something just ordinary. Even the writers of the NT did that. They used an older form of Greek, older than even was used back in those times. I can't remember what it's called, but informally it's called NT Greek.

Baha'i Writings are the same way. The English translations are sooo beautiful! They are an older form of English, and when one reads them, one knows they're reading a most holy document, rather than the Sunday paper.

That's my take on it. As for the NT, that really is the reason it was written in NT Greek, so that the reader knows they are reading Scripture.

Hello. Actually, there are many translations of the Qur'an. It has been translated into almost every language on Earth. The translation you are referring to is probably Pikthall's. He attempted to keep some of the lyrical prose of the original Arabic intact in his translation, which led to a very formal style. There are other translations which are more "modern", and they are often easier to read. It's important to read it in context, however, and the best way is to take classes at an Islamic Center to learn the true meaning and context of the Revelation.

We dont consider any translation as being the "Quran".

Only the original Arabic is the Quran and it has been memorized by millions of Muslims in only that language.

All other translations are called the "(closest)meaning of the Quran" but not THE Quran.

i don't know, maybe the translator though people will understand it better this way. but there are various translations not with the language of King James. that's why we always like to refer to the original language of the Quran, as translation can have many errors.

Maybe you would prefer it in some other language? My english copy isn't a king james version

So when they come to live in the UK and build their hideous mosques all over the place they dont have to learn another language when asking for planning permission
