Can I use dish soap in the washing machine?

I'm out of laundry detergent... is there any reason I can't use dish soap instead?

Is it more or less concentrated??

no!! It will create a suds overload, pouring out all over the place. If it's an emergency you can use half a cup of amonia in place of your laundry detergent. If you have any baking soda, throw in half a cup of that too.

I DON"T KNOW WHY so many people are telling you to do this...TRUST ME, it's NOT okay!! It will make a waterfall of suds out of your washing machine. The alternative I gave you is from a professional launderer.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "isn't as bad to use as others" but here are a few of my current favorites... Desert Essence shampoo and conditioner (especially the coconut) Nature's Gate for toothpaste Method dish soap and liquid hand wash One with Nature bar soaps

Most hand dishwashing detergents make too many suds when agitated in a clothes washing machine or dishwasher. The foamy bubbles will expand and overflow the washer.

Could be a repeat of an old I Love Lucy episode!

I really wouldn't recommend it either. It makes a lot of suds and if you use too much...look out it's like an episode of I Love Lucy. If you're in a pinch I bet you can spot treat with it, but I wouldn't dump a whole bunch in the machine.

    You probably shouldn't.

Regular soap for laundry is designed not to bubble up that much while dish detergent is.

The foam will overrun onto your floor and you will have fun cleaning it up.

No! And if you did, then you know why.

Dish soap makes loads of suds. If you use enough to make your clothes clean, you'll get suds everywhere.

If you didn't get suds everywhere, you didn't use enough and your clothes will have a grayish cast and not smell (or be) clean.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! i'VE TRIED, IT...LUCKILLY i STOPPED IT BEFORE IT MADE A MESS....

see, dish soap, doesn't work on clothes, it won't wash them, it will only make them messy...

just borrow some detergent from a neighbor...

Don't use very much if you do! It will create suds everywhere!

For instance, if you use it in an automatic dishwasher, never use more than the size of a dime!!! If you use more, you'll have bubbles invading your house! :)

The automatic washers are great at creating bubbles. :)

    Good luck! :)

I've done it, but it doesn't get your clothes very clean. Don't use a whole lot if you're going to do it, it makes one hell of a mess if you do. You may need to re-rinse a few times. Personally, I'd just get some laundry detergent.
