I am such an amateur painter, but my experience is oil is much easier to deal with.

    1. It doesn't dry very quickly, which means you can paint slowly

    2. Oil pigments don't change color after they dry.

    3. If you've made a wrong stroke, just wait it to dry and cover it up with another stroke. Oil paintings are very easy to revise.

    4. I can brag about "I can oil paint." It's really not that hard actually.

Ignoring the fact that you are posting a painting question in a religion and spirituality section, I'd have to say that watercolors are way easier to use, and they can be enhanced greatly if you mix a small amount of tempera in when you mix in a well. Oils... you need the right oil, plus turpentine and all this stuff and it just gets messy. Oils look better, but you have to weigh the aesthetics with the convenience.

There are specific techniques to both media, and advantages and disadvantages to both. It's not possible to say whether one is more difficult. I'm better with oil colors than I am with water colors. It's harder to correct mistakes with water color, because they are transparent. Oil colors are more versatile, and many of the same techniques you can use with water color can be used with oil (washes, glazes, etc.) When you make a mistake with oil color, you scrape it off the canvas. Oil colors are generally more vibrant than water colors.

So ... why are you asking this in the religion section?

You forgot acrylics (the paint of choice for my brother).

Oil paint gives the deepest, most vibrant colors; followed by acrylic; water colors seem to lack that quality.

    - watercolor painting can look so pretty and delicate, and it dries fast.

    - with oil painting you can mix most colors on the canvas, its easy to make changes before drying, the texture can be very rewarding, and the colors are vibrant. oils take a long time to dry and the paint could crack on drying if not careful.

Oils are far more difficult to use, but give more detail and perfection

    actually i prefer acryllic.

oil is a pain in the a** and water colour to me is too thin and lacks depth and texture.
