Why do people fight and yell instead of going to the Library?
It seems people would rather pick a fight and kill and steal than go to a Public Library and become educated. It's one thing if you can't afford to go to college to become an engineer or physicists or scientist. But surely one can sit in the Library and learn something constructive, because all the Libraries in the U.S. are FREE. ....FREE....FREE. So why is that?
love and peace: I've had to overcome insurmountable obstacles to get to where I am, only to be told I'm overqualified for a job. I was adopted by an elderly poor couple who had been thru both world wars. My mother was an extremely angry, violent and abusive woman. She was a strict disciplinarian who believed in whipping a child.

Libraries are "not cool" and cool means everything to people without education.
That's why "nerds" and "geeks" are picked on in school: because they're not COOL (i.e. dressing in fancy outfits, smoking crack, listening to rap, and beating up nerds).
Of course, I'm being silly. NOTHING is cooler than being smart. NOTHING is sexier than a well read lady. NOTHING.

Pick me!! I know! I did a paper on something similar.
Educated people fight and yell. Why do we have war?
Instead passing judgment why not research in the books at the library that made you an expert?
For every action there is a reaction, but more importantly an origin.
What you will find is social and economic status does determine self perception, and is as genetic as your brown eyes and black hair- It is statistically proven. Your parents, parents, parents, inherited luggage has either helped or hurt you mentally, physically, and/or financially in some way.
If you are referring to kids in the inner city-
It is not that easy! When faced with numerous obstacles on a daily basis just to make it home alive! It is kind of a cycle. There are no parents, the parents do not care, or they are working to make ends meat. Which means the children have to care for themselves.. feed themselves. Reading a book takes concentration, commitment, not to mention self discipline that was never taught because of the lack of guidance. They end up dropping out and digging themselves deeper into a hole. They grow up to be the old guys peer pressuring the kids to do wrong. It's a cycle.
The only thing I'm able to come up with is early intervention. Prevent those children from making the same mistakes their parents made. Mentoring is best.
Don't be stuck up!! Be better. I always ask myself- would the Dalai Lama or Mother Teresa do that? :)

I'm not sure. For as long as I can remember people always seem to think going to the library or picking up a book as useless, and a waste of time. Fighting is so popularized by wannabe tough kids and people usually want to emulate that. Some people only see what everyone wants them to see, they see fighting as cool and a way to stand against those who discipline them like teachers or principals. They see the here and now and not the future. When a brain is required to be somebody.
