It's a horrible crime, but not a racial crime. Whenever there is a white person committing a crime against a black person the media makes it a racial issue. It's not always so. Bad people of all colors do bad things to people of all colors. Most of the time that's what it is.

This horrible man (men) was just abusing and torturing a woman because he (they) could. It's just sick and demented.

I get tired of the race thing being constantly shoved in our faces when it really has nothing to do with that. But, when it's the other way around, a black person committing a crime against a white...race is never mentioned. Why?

Jellcie Cat: She's not defending them, she's only asking why it's got to be a hate crime? Using racial slurs happens in both white and black crimes against the opposite race. The thing is the media loves to make a racial issue in these cases because it's a ratings factor. It's money...that's it.

These men are sick, disgusting pigs and deserve to spend their lives in jail. No one is defending their actions.

#1 - it IS a hate crime because of the racial overtones of their actions. if you are not racist, don't use racial slurs.

#2 - the prosecutors are not using the "hate crime" charges because they can get more punishment time with using the regular felony charges for kidnapping, torture, and rape. which is the proper thing to do to those worthless feces.

#3 - you can't judge a book by its cover. I don't think that girl willingly knew she was dating a sadistic bastard. I'm guessing she found out later though.

The term "hate crime" is a crime, usually violent, motivated by prejudice or intolerance toward a member of a gender, racial, religious, or social group. While she was being raped, tortured, and abused for about a week, she was constantly being called a "******". This is a racial slur, as I am sure you already know. This is an extremely derogatory term and they made her participate in many unspeakable, deragotary acts to degrade her a human, which is why this is being called a HATE CRIME! Because it is!!!

What is your question??? They probably are going for the label of hate crime in order for the people who did it to receive more time.Hate crimes carry a stiffer sentence. So what does that have to do with you feeling labeled? What do you care what people think? It was a hate crime. They hated the girl - duh! If it were you being killed don't you think your family would want the same to make sure the people who did it got what they deserved to the full extent of the law and not plead down to a lesser offense or get out on half the time served? What if you were that black girl with white folks trying to kill you...think on that for a while.

The fact they repeatly used racial slur towards her during this ordeal constitutes calling it a hate crime. I don't think that just because this young woman dated him means that she knew he was capable of doing such unspeakable, horrific things to her. I don't know anything about their relationship other than the fact they once dated. Did you stop to think that perhaps she did see something in him that wasn't quite right and that was the reason she "used" to date him? The whole thing is so sad for her. I can't imagine going thru what she did repeatedly for that long. I hope those who are involved in this despicable crime all rot in prison.

I was reading some of the story. I couldn't read anymore. It's too disturbing. This could have happened to anyone regardless of race. I just hope that she gets the medical care that she needs and her attackers are punished to the fullest extent of the law.

If they used racist slurs it becomes a hate crime plain and simple. They call her derogatory terms while they tortured her. They are poor excuses for human beings and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Don't even waste your breath defending them in the least bit,it doesn't look good for you character.

people are not always as they appear on the surface. do you think Ted Bundy's girlfriend knew he was a serial rapist and killer before he got arrested? she had no idea.

There are far more deserving people to defend. This was an amazingly brutal crime, demonstrating a depraved heart in all those that participated. I can't imagine why anyone would do what they did.
