What do I feed my kitty's?

I just adopted two kittens that the mother quit feeding and I don't think they are even six weeks old yet. I tried the supplement Kitten food but they don't seem to like it. So I put them on wet food. But their stool was really runny and they had some REALLY stinky farts. So I called the vet and she told me to try dry Kitty Chow but they really don't seem to like that either. Do you think I should just take them in to the vet or just keep trying different foods till I find the right one?

Most likely those kittens still need their formula, definetly see a vet. if you can. How are you getting this kitten's formula to them because if it's in a bowl perhaps they don't know what to do quite yet and need to be bottle fed. Also if you don't know if they are six weeks old yet ask the vet this because they you can grasp a better idea of what you should be feeding them. I am surprised the vet asked to try dry kitty chow if she doesn't even know how old they are yet but do experiment too much until you find out more info.

Sometimes when kittens are abruptly weaned they will stop eating because they don't really know what to do, and sometimes the canned food is too rich for them and that's what causes the diarrhea and stinky farts. Just be sure not to give them cows' milk because cats are lactose intolerant and that will cause diarrhea, too. Try some KMR (kitten milk replacer) and then gradually mix in some wet kitten food, a little at a time. Then add dry kitten food and reduce the amount of KMR and wet food until they're eating only the dry food. The dry food will promote better muscular development, is better for their teeth and they won't be as gassy. As long as the canned food is mixed with something else it probably won't cause the diarrhea. When you feed them the KMR and wet food, rub a little under their noses to get them started. This process can be completed within 10 days to 2 weeks. If they still aren't eating like they should, take them to the vet after a couple of days because things can do downhill rather suddenly with kittens.

It might be a good idea to have the vet see them. Maybe they need formula still? The vet will be able to give an approximation of how old they are. It will make a difference in what to feed them since they are not eating the dry kitten food.

First off, you need to clear up the possibility of worms with the vet. Those critters are frequent causers of diarrhea and stinky poo.

I would stick with a wet food for their diet. It is the natural one for a cat and what the mother would be weaning them to (think mouse, not corn flakes).

If you use a high quality one they should be fine - Wellness, CA Natural, Max kitten, Felidae. Anything in a can from the grocery store uses poor quality meat, lot of additives (for color and taste) that are not necessary and most likely to cause intestinal upsets.

You could also try mixing the wet food with the dry food to get them interested in the dry food, then slowly use less and less of the wet food. I give my kittens a can of wet food every couple of days still, just because they love it so much but it's not good for them.

what I did with a kitty I got that was too youg is you get some kitten food that is really high in nutrition and you take some water and let it get mushy. they will eat it cause they will think it is soft food but it will be better for them. Once they turn 6 weeks try it hard again. But this works but make sure the water is city water or something they will not eat it if it is clorinated!!

Source(s): worked on my kitty!! the vet will say you can do it to if you ask them.

Good for you for getting wet food which is muchj healthier then dry for your cats. From a health food store you can get some acidopholous and add it to the food

have you had them checked for worms? or an overall vet visit.

BTW, changing foods on a consistent basis causes diarhea in most cases.
