Which war has more influence on the U.S.A. today?

The Revolutionary War or World War II (or another war if you can think of one).

This is NOT my homework, I'm asking because I got into an argument about this with one of my friends.

Well, I think this is an apples and oranges type of question. If it was not for the Revolutionary War, we would not be a country and in World War II we came out as a world power so both wars had things that were influential

World War II is what made America into a global superpower.

Europe was bombed out and Japan had surrendered to America.

I'd have to say that exceeds the colonies that were born after the American Revolution.

Obviously the Revolutionary War. If we never win our freedom then all we would ended being was another colony in which the British Empire drew troops for its war including WW2.

Without a doubt WWII. The lessons of the second world war direct much of our foreign policy to this day. We learned that if you let a dictator get away with too much, it is costly. Nip it in the bud early on, and save lives. We are constantly feeling morally obligated to intervene in international politics to keep the peace. Our role in WWII effectively undid the Monroe Doctrine. We used to be a separate entity, unto ourselves. After fighting WWII, we emerged as a superpower, and with that superpower status became a diplomatic nation on a politically global level.

In short, the Rev. War was our way of saying, "Okay Dad (i.e., UK), I don't need you. I may be small and not that mighty, but I want to be on my own. Please leave me alone; I can do it myself!!!" We didn't care if the world liked us; we wanted to start up a democracy.

WWII's end proved us to be a formidable superpower. With that power came so much more politcal/global responsibility. We adopted a "messianistic perfectionism"; "we're the good ole USA; how can we help your country?" We want the world to like us, and we want to spread democracy.

I would have to say that the use of nuclear weapons at the end of WWII is ever present on the minds of military planners and politicians. While other wars influence thinking on matters about expansion, economy, boundaries and politics, WWII has the added layer of nuclear destruction to contend with.
