How do I make homemade, safe, good hamster bedding?
I have not gotten the chance to go to the store to buy more hamster bedding. I usually use Carefresh.
Is there any other material that I can use to make safe, good, temporary hamster bedding?

The ink will not poison them. Newspapers might have once done this, but most now have soy based inks, and all use non-toxic ink. My exotic specialist uses newspapers on the bottoms of cages.
For my animals I use towels. My rats have whole towels and my hamster like strips of towels that can be made into a small nest. These can be washed easily.

newpaper isn't the smartest idea, because this can be harmful to some hamsters due to the ink, but the best bedding for them to nest in is ovbiously toliet paper, but if u want to have a floor covering, try using bits of something stronger, like paper towel shredded up, one withour scents or colored patterns, the smell or the ink could also be harmful, just make sure to get hamster bedding soon! seeing as it won't last very long

I would advise against newspaper as the ink is not good for rodents. I don't know about you but when I read the newspaper my hands tend to get dirty from the ink. I wouldn't want to be sleeping in that or putting it in my mouth if I was a rodent. The newspaper bedding in the store such as carefresh have been treated to remove the ink. Go with paper towels, preferably plain with no colors or patterns. It will hold moisture better and not dissolve like toilet paper or Kleenex would. You could also just shred some plain paper such as printer paper. Use a paper shredder if you have one to make it easier. Crush the paper in your hands to make it softer. Hope I've helped!

You really should stick to the stuff you buy in the pet store. Hamsters like to shove it in their cheeks and move it about his cage. My hamster "Nuke" is always moving his about and making little burrows and such with it. I give him the fluffy kind and some of the shredded stuff, he seems to have no preference and I usually buy different brands.

Defo not newspaper. When the hamster puts it in his mouth the ink will pioson him. Try shredding blank paper in a shredder or using a scissors to cut them into tiny pieces.

Do not use newspaper!!! The ink IS toxic! IF, and that is a big IF,you cannot wait to change the bedding then, I have to ask 1] is it really that dirty that it cannot wait a day? And, 2] why did you wait so long?
The best choices for hamster bedding are aspen or Carefresh [please note that Carefresh is a commercially processed recycled product! Not your regular daily news]. Cedar, pine, and other softwoods are completely inappropriate since they give off phenols which contribute to respiratory infections, and can even cause death. So what does that leave???
Make sure that you don't run out of bedding!
I don't mean to be rude, but I must speak for the hamsters.

You can take toilet paper and shred it. But that will only work for alittle while, try to get some really bedding quickly.
Do not use scented, because they're chemicals, in them.
But if you have a local A&P or shoprite, or even pathmark they have them. maybe not carefresh but something good.

Carefresh is excellent bedding. Since it is made from newspaper, if we run out we usually shred newspaper. It works well.

shredded paper and toilet paper. Dont use newspaper because the ink is harmful.
