Area of content means it's subject specific as opposed to general material. Content based courses for example deal with a specific and related core of material as pertaining to a subject. Education courses are content courses because they have specific goals and outcomes.

The term 'content' in an educational context refers to what is being taught. For example, if I was going to write a program for my year 11 class, my content would be what I was going to actually teach them, rather than my teaching practices, theories or my K.L.A (Key Learning Area: e.g. Maths, English, Science etc.).... My content would be something like Speeches, Essay-writing, or Shakespeare... it is the actual content of your lessons, therefore, 'content'. does that help?
