How the heck are most of you coming up with the money to travel so much?

I wish I could travel. But on my husbands Army income there is no way. How do you do it? Gosh I would love to see all these exotic places that cost a fortune to get there let alone being there. I gotta admit I'm jealous. My husband is in Iraq and that is the only place he has ever gone other than fishing around home. I only wish. I've got small children and I'm going to school. We can't even afford to go camping. Gee got any good advice? I would love to take my husband on a vacation once he gets home. He needs it and I do too.

Update:

I'm in college studying criminal justice. I know that it will eventually pay off. But untill that happens we are usually broke.

Update 2:

OK angry kitty!! did you not get the fact that i'm married to a US soldier. Not only am I not going there but I've already done the dancing thing years ago. It's not worth it.

I don't make much money either, but me and my fiance take a vacation every year... while either my parents or her parents take the kids for a few days.

all you really need to do is save a little bit of money every pay period and leave it alone, just keep adding to it... maybe $50-75/paycheck... and just put it in a savings account and don't touch it.

with your husband in Iraq, you should be getting quite a bit more money every pay period(due to him being in the "tax free zone")

anyways... after you save up for about a year, check on some of the various travel agency websites like travelocity.com, cheaptix.com... they all offer pretty good deals on flights and hotels and stuff like that. and try to arrange the flight at least 3 weeks in advance, that way it'll be a little bit cheaper

as for the first response about "throw the kids in daycare and get a job"... do you realize how expensive day care is??! she'd be working just to pay for daycare, so what's the point.... i know all about that one, that's why my fiance stays at home with our kids.

    anyway... good luck to ya.

Open a checking account that gives you a 5% rate. Every week deposit a small amount like $50.00 into the account. After a year, you'll have at least $2,730.00.

This also means you need to cut back on spending, clip coupons and look out for sales. Make a shopping list and stick to the shopping list. Don't get distracted by the show items at places like Wal-mart or Target. Show items like at the check-out stands, the middle shelves, and the end of shelf product. They're placed there for a reason... to make you buy more crap. Don't always buy the name brand products cuz their too costly. Look for cheap deals like the $1.00 movie theathers.

If you feel that you wouldn't be able to reach your goal, you might have to take on a part-time job.

As for vacations, try to go on an off season for better deals.

girl, id slap those kids in day care, a cheap babysitter or something. finish school and yall should be okay. :) Me and my husband can go on vacation because we both work. I'ma Nurse and he is an electrician. So we do okay...but something cheap you can do is get a babysitter or a family friend to babysit for the weekend when he gets home and go to the next town over and stay in a hotel just the two of you for the weekend...he would love it!

    Good Luck!

drop all your change and a 1$ bill in a jar every time you come home with money. more if you can afford it. my friend did this and at the end of a year they had 490$ they were able to stay a week in a near by town with a decent motel on the beach!

Finish college, work hard, do a little business on the side and save for your dream vacation.
