Their original name was the Baltimore Orioles from 1901 - 1902.
They became the the New York Highlanders in 1903 but sports writers would refer to them as the Yanks and it caught on with the fans, as the Yankees would virtually steal players from the Red Sox throughout the 1910's. Most notably Babe Ruth.
The pinstripes look distinguished and cool so they never changed them.
They've played home games at Hilltop Park, the Polo Grounds, Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium, and the 1976 remodeled Yankee Stadium.
They don't wear names on their backs, because they are the most successful team ever, so you should just know who they are. Arrogant but true.
Did you know Yankee Stadium was the first ballpark to have 'stadium' in it's name?

Go to baseball-reference.com. You can find out some info on there. I think that site will tell you some info on the franchise. Its primarily a stat site though. Or just type in history of the NY Yankees. Just look it up, yo!
The Yanks don't wear names on the back of their jerseys, because back in the day, everybody knows the Yankees players by their number and they still do. But they never had names on their backs. Everyone knows the Yanks!
