A sure fire way to stop the bickering between atheists and christians....?

Simply remove "Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance, "IGWT" from our federal currency.

Keep your religion in our hearts, homes and churches, and NOT in our public schools, our public courthouses, and our government....

And I guarantee....you'll never have another problem with us godless atheists again....ever.

What's so hard about that????

Update:

In regards to the whole "school textbook" thing...the theory of evolution , while it may not be 100% accurate, is backed by science.

Religion disguised as science is still not science.

Update 2:

Both "Under God" and "In God We Trust" were added in the 1950s...they haven't "always been there" and no they weren't "added by our founding fathers".

Update 3:

On the contrary, Forgotten, I'm not telling people they can't worship, or not to worship...I'm just saying, if they have enough respect for the beliefs of the atheist, to keep their religion to themselves...there will be no more bickering...no more problem. Again...I don't see the problem.....

Update 4:

Deslok....your response opens up a whole new can of worms. You're saying that the minorities only right is to respect the whims of the majority. Our on US Constitution doesn't even say this. If you'd like to discuss it further, please feel free to message me...or email me.

Always amazing to see how imbecilic Americans are about their own country's history. They are absolutely clueless about the most basic elements of its birth and insist on re writing the history books to suit their self deluded, fundy beliefs.

Idiots. Very good points you make imho.

    Atheist.

Good question, I think. One thing we can do, I believe, is to recognize how interdependent we often are in practice, if not in theory. Atheists & religious people of all kinds often work in the same capitalist corporations, and are employed by the same government bureaucracies. We have to cooperate in those settings to get the job done and often enough we DO cooperate pretty well. In my office, for example, I know that we have at least one Jehovah's Witness, at least one Catholic, some Protestants I could mention, several outspoken atheists, and in the past the workforce has included Mormons and Jews. I don't know about Muslims, but we may have had 1 or 2 of them, also. The office also includes blacks and whites, gay and straight people, Republican conservatives, Democratic liberals and at least one political leftist (me). We get along fine, AFAIK. We know we have to work together to get the job done, and we do. I think the same principle applies in many political settings: at least the Democratic Party includes people of several different religious leanings, and I think this is also true for the Republicans to some degree. In the GOP, for instance, there are some atheist libertarians as well as conservative Christians, both Protestants & Catholics, and also some "neoconservative" Jews, both religious and secularly inclined. Our capitalist society has real faults, I think, but one of its good features is that the very same sort of de facto religious tolerance usually applies in the marketplace. Atheists and Christians, and also Jews, Muslims, Hindus, agnostics, Wiccans and people of other tendencies, often shop at the very same supermarkets. We also attend some of the same cultural events, buy the same cars, argue over the same Internet, go to some of the same museums, watch the same sporting events. Therefore, I think most of us are probably more tolerant than we think we are -- except maybe in R&S. :-)

What are you going to do when Jesus Christ returns and sets up His kingdom?

And you want us to tear down billions of dollars worth of buildings just to please you.

You are right about one thing, no more problems with godless atheists because when God leaves America, America is coming down. Have you seen Great Britain lately? The heathens and atheists cannot sustain America.

It is the Lord who sets free. Freedom is of the Lord and whom God sets free is free indeed.

As God is being pushed out of America the schools are groaning, the families are falling apart and the courts are not just.

Do you really think atheistic men can handle this country? I guarantee you they can't. She'll come down faster than an elevator.

Evolution has done its damage. Christians don't believe in the 6 days of creation any more. They choose to believe man instead of God. The Bible says there will be a great falling away and it is happening. They proclaim to be Christian but they don't believe the Creator. The Bible says that many will come and say they are Christ. These false christs are all around us and so deceived many like Jim Jones did, that they lost their life.

If you don't know the Bible and know the Lord of the Bible, then you can be carried away by evolution, Jim Jones, David Karesh, Moon, etc. The Deceiver is here and you serve him quite well.

Why should the majority bow to the vocal minority? Should we change the Declaration of Independence, the Pledge of Allegiance, and our currency to placate the whims of you, the vocal few? This is ludicrous!!! The majority rules in this country--get over it. Why not enjoy the fact that you have the right to be an Atheist (or in your case Anti-theist--Atheists are mild not fanatical like you) if you are so inclined and blind? In many countries you do not have the protected right of freedom of religion--or lack there of. Since you don't like the way things are why not move to China or North Korea, what about Cuba? These communist countries enforce no religion--move there. You probably would be right at home, since you wish to oppress religious persons and doctrine. I'm positive no one would be sorry to see you go or miss someone with such obvious communist oppressive views.

The trouble with what you say, Adam G, is that you only want what you want, without regard for the rule of majority. Sure, it might possibly defuse a couple of situations, but if you take that luxury from others, they are most certainly going to fight to get it back. Greed begets greed begets greed, they say.

Addendum: I understand your statement, G. My point is that no ultimatum will ever fully resolve the issue. On a topic that so many (on both sides) are instilled with such fervent ideological beliefs, it's going to require a bit of "give and take" before any true progress can ever be made toward the satisfaction of both protagonist parties.

The recognition that this country gives The Lord God is in appreciation for est. and blessing us more then any country, not to rub it in your face. And as for being quiet, believe me you don't want us to be, because if we do and just "keep it in our hearts" then you unbelievers will have no hope of ever being saved, besides we have orders from The King to proclaim His gospel to the lost and hopeless, such as yourself. What you unbelievers don't understand is we true believers are just servants of The Creator,The Lord Almighty, and He is not just ruler of America, He is ruler of ALL, to everlasting to everlasting. It is you who are the rebels and transgressors against The Holy King(as we once were). If we believers keep talking about what we have in Christ and shine the light in the darkness, no doubt some of you "atheists"will be singing the praises of God your savior within the year. WE WILL DECLARE THE GREAT SALVATION OF GOD for you friend.

Without a general purge I see no hope for stopping the bickering. However you have my permission to shut off your computer and go do something useful.

The proposals are admirable in their own right, but will hardly kill the controversy. Only acquisition by the theists of the ability to reason, and the willingness to do so, would settle the matter.

Give them a hand they will take an arm. Atheist sometimes get so caught up in the fight they lose perspective. It's human besides I thought this country respected the majority?

  • 1 decade ago

I highly doubt that would be all that it would take. As long as atheists think that a believer is a lower form of life compared to them, there will always be tension between the two.

Edit; See you will always have people like yoda green.
