God desires all men to be saved .. but is this all?

There is a verse in 1 Timothy 2:4

Speaks about GOd not just desiring us to be saved only but to Come to the Full knowledge of the Truth.

What is this full knowledge of the Truth?

2 Timothy 3:7 says something interesting too...

And are always learning yet never able to come to the full knowledge of the truth..

Some may find this footnote interesting too:)

Salvation is only the beginning of life with God. Eternal life, according to Jesus’ definition is: “to know the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3). God Himself is the Truth. Consider this. When a baby is born into the physical world, he must learn to walk, talk, eat, and basically LIVE, so that ideally, he would become an important member of and contributor to society. It is a similar concept. Living as a child of the Kingdom of God, and yet in the world where there are many challenges, requires a lot of learning and training. In the meantime, God desires that we become a blessing to others. God has prepared great blessings in and through your life. So rejoice!!

  • I can remember when I thought being a Christian was so boring,as a young teenager,of course I wasn't saved but just the thought of becoming a Christian I thought boy I would have to quit so much...

I was so stupid in my thinking,,after I turned 37 years old, thats when I seen Jesus for who He is and He has changed my life around..the things Jesus wanted me to let go of was only to help me and not hurt me but I didn't know that then..

If I had to do all over again,I would become a Christian as a little child..I wouldn't have to be learning so fast like I am now,,lol...

    God Bless.....

The full knowledge of the truth is not just memorizing or quoting scriptures but in knowing Who God is.

    Shalom

  • 1 decade ago

God desires that we obey him, in the Psalms it says obedience is better than sacrifice. The full knowledge of the truth comes as you believe (rely on, trust in, adhere to) the gospel, 1 Corinthians 15: 3&4, and God reveals it to you. You cannot come to the full knowledge by studying the Bible, you must believe and let God reveal it to you.

    Hope this helps.

It is our responsability to use the Holy Spirit that god has bleses us with to go into Gods word, and find out that his teachings and lessons are...It is an awesome guift, that we neglect.

If people actually took to heart what the scriptures say about knowing god and his wour, and how his guidence and plans work, no one would be taken by false doctrine or cults.

Problems occur when we let Man dictate what God wants us to learn....

Some interesting symantics arise concerning this verse that elaborate upon the nature of being saved.

The greek word which the KJV translates as "saved" which is: swyhnai actually means literally "to make whole".

    This is interesting because:

    Jesus said to his disciples,

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

"When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female, when you make eyes in place of an eye, a hand in place of a hand, a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then you will enter [the kingdom]."

    -------------------------------------------------------------

Also there are some glareing errors in Timothy of a factual nature. It states in 1 Timothy verses 2:14

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, because she was fully deceived, 22 fell into transgression"

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**This is literally incorrect, as Adam chose to eat the apple even though he knew it was against what he had been told. Adam also made a choice and became covered by the same "deception", although he only did so when he had realised Eve's actions. These verses seem to be used as an excuse to belittle women in that passage as being unfit to teach. This patriarchal Jewish OT attitude was shared by Simon Peter, as he said to Jesus and the others:

    ---------------------------------------------

    114. Simon Peter said to them, "Make Mary leave us, for females don't deserve life."

Whereas Jesus replied: "Look, I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every female who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of Heaven."

    ------------------------------------------------------------

Which again meets the description of the male becoming female and the female becoming male such that the 2 become 1: Being saved is being made whole.

**The foot note appears to be a political interpretation seeking to put the verse into the context of theological politics. I don't believe that is the real purpose of the verse. It is the orthodox churches attempts to stamp their purity upon the various sects of christianity which lead to many malevolent actions by the orthodox church through its political patrons.

Such actions are against the spirit of Jesus' teachings, which promote free will.

    Hi Sandy,

I believe that regardless of one's denominational affiliation that truth begins when one accepts Christ as their Savior. Any religion that denies Christ as Lord and Savior and denies the atonement that occured on the Cross for our sins has essentially denied faith and acceptance of Christ. Christ has come. He died on a Cross. He shed his blood for us. His blood is the propitiation for our sins. We have been saved from sin and its penalty through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. He is my Lord and my God. He is my redeemer, my deliverer, my advocate, my mediator and my Lord. He is sovereign and he is the desire of the ages. Jesus is indeed the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father, but through Jesus. (John 14:6); (John 8:23-24).

This is the truth that we all must embrace if we desire to see him face to face.

    Romans 10:9

    Revelation 3:20

    John 3:16

Have faith dear friends in God.

    TY Sandy.

Hey sis, unsilenced lamb has a great point, one that I embrace.. here is another, there is more to salvation than believing..like repentance. When we come to know GOD as it is our privelege to know HIM, our lives will be ones of continual obedience to HIS will.. You see GOD only wants what is best for us, not because HE is GOD, but because HE knows the wages of sin better than we can possibly know..HE knows that if we dwell in sin it will be harder to get out, because sin is enjoyable and desirable to our nature, it is a natural act for us to sin. That is why we have to be BORN AGAIN, literally as well as spiritually, and GOD does remake us when we choose to follow HIS plans, and lifestyle for us..

Allow me to use a rather risky and controversial example..

GOD instructed the children of Israel on health, and provided for them a meatless diet..what was the results of this diet?

Next, when GOD told Noah to put animals on the ark HE said 2 of the unclean and 7 of the clean..what are the unclean? If GOD wanted us to eat these animals why did HE instruct Noah this way? Now in today's society now that health is an issue, we find out that GOD'S original diet is a preventative diet, one that preserves our minds and health.

THe first thing that changes in a person's life after a heart attack is what? so my point, or rather GOD'S point is why wait? Because we lust for the fleshpots of Egypt? or should we spend time in humble surrender to the will of GOD, and pray for repentance from that which the devil hopes will kill GOD'S people?

Source(s): Salvation is change for the good of mankind, trusting in GOD no matter what the issue.. not the convenience of waiting till we are half way thru our lives, and all of a sudden say, well, I think I will be saved now... JMO

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Jn. 14:6

God wants us to fully know Him(Jesus) but that will take all of eternity and then some. I don't the we'll ever fully know Jesus but fortunately we are always learning.

    God Bless!

Let me offer a slight correction to your statement. God would not have any one that would perish. This does not mean that he desires all men to be saved! There is a difference, although I know that's not really your question.

Of course God desires a relationship with his own. We increase in our relationship with Him through Bible study, prayer, fellowship, and other "works" of our faith that are empowered by the Holy Spirit working in our hearts and lives. Not everybody gets this privilege.
