Why does my heart hurt? (literally)?

I'm only 17 years old and I've had this problem for a while now (probably a couple of years) but my heart hurts sometimes. I don't know how to describe except for that it just starts hurting and if i move my left arm the pain will somewhat spike or if i breath in.

You will have to be a little more descriptive in your symptoms. Tell your parents you are worried and make an appointment with a doctor. Its probably nothing to worry about but go find out for sure and put your mind at ease.

You know, I'm not really sure why our hearts sometimes hurt when a loved one has hurt us. But I do know that my heart really does hurt when that happens. I guess thats just why they call it broken hearted. I'm almost positive it has to do with the emotional connections we make with people - the bonds. I've experienced this pain. And it only makes a figurative broken heart worse.

A man I used to work with, and still know, had a similar condition (except he was 40+ years). Come to find out he had a slight birth defect in his heart. They did a very simple surgery to fix it.
