Help-expired TX Driver's License? Can I drive myself to renew?

Will they fine me or arrest me for driving to get a renewal? Or just shame me, or let it go?

Also, what do I need to take with me? Other ID? Insurance proof? Will they take credit cards, check, cash, or what?

Under the circumstances, I would think the average officer would not make an arrest, after you expain where you are going, but the safe thing would be to have someone else drive you. The officer, for liability reasons, may not allow you to continue driving if you are stopped.

Although the chance is slim, I'm not sure I would take the chance of getting in an accident or getting pulled over for something else.

Your expired DL should be all the ID you need.

You can not drive at all on an expired DL, even to renew it. You probably won't get arrested, but it is a big fine and your car will get impounded for at least 30 days, at your expense. Go to the DMV website or call them , they will tell you eveything you need to bring and what forms of payment they accept.

Don't take a chance. You do not have a valid license. Contact the DMV. They will answer all your questions.
