For the moms: When did you notice you no longer had a personal identity beyond "so-and-so's mom"?

Don't get me wrong, I love being a mother but I find it hard to believe how many people seem to have forgotten that I have a name! Maybe it's because I waited until I was older (33) to have my first child and was use to having my own identity. Now, even people who have known me for awhile say, "This is ******'s mom."

Update:

It doesn't bother me, I just find it humorous.

Update 2:

Wow... didn't expect people to get up at arms. I'm not bothered by this. My son is 16 months, not in school or in day care. It was just an observation and I wondered if other mothers noticed this as well.

Wow, your experience started alot sooner than mine. When my oldest, my daughter, started kindergarten, that's when I first started being addressed as T***'s mom. Soon I was known as T****'s mom, my son.

My daughter is 29, my son 28, and their friends still introduce me as T*** and T****'s mom. It's really funny!

I believe people just do that because if your child does anything, people will know who to look at! Don't care so much you are the child's mother be proud and move on. Be good to you and be happy.

When you are in contact with your childs friends as they are growing, that is the norm. It will not last forever though. Its just this phase. Sounds like you need more than that though?

Yeah I have noticed it too. Me and my friends jokingly call ourselves by A's mom, D' mom.

I wear my "MOM" badge with honor and this badge is part of my personal identity so I don't feel robbed one bit.

It really became noticeable when he started school, but it doesn't really bother me.
