Cat in labor!!!!!?

I got a cat from this lady who didnt want her anymore. She is a young cat, dont know how old though. This will be her 3rd litter. First litter had 5 kittens, second had 4 kittens.

I could express milk from her nipples for about 5 days now. Today she is walking around and then she will lay down and her stomach will tense up and she will purr. Is this a sign she is in labor? I dont see any discharge but she licks herself down there occasionaly. She is still eating a little food.

Update:

I think the kittens have dropped back. If you can feel them they are pointing to her back end.

I have read that some cats dont eat for 24 hrs. until birth, others eat right up to the delievery of the kittens, and others snack between babies.

Update 2:

after the kittens are weaned, she will be spayed. TRUST ME!

Every cat is different, I've read all kinds of things saying a cat won't eat during labor, this may be true for some cats but I have never experienced this myself. Now I have not had a cat to give birth to litter of kittens for some time (been about 5 years last one was a stray too) but I took in a pregnant (very rotund) stray as of April - May 12th she had a litter of 7 kittens, which according to the emergency vet she had actually delayed the labor twice over a two week period.

Purring can be a sign of distress. If she is only eating "a little food" she will not have enough nutrition to support herself and another litter. Why hasn't this young cat been spayed yet????

PLEASE get her to a vet immediately to make sure her life is not in danger and leave her there to have her spayed as soon as the litter comes. It sounds like she is too far along to spay her before the litter comes.

Having so many litters at such a young age is very bad for her health. Not to mention the health risks of not being spayed even without multiple pregnancies. You said you got the cat from a lady who didn't want her anymore. I'm sure you've seen first hand how difficult it is to find kittens good, lasting homes. Please stop adding to over-population problem and her health problems and have this poor cat spayed!

Have the kittens dropped back yet? When momma cat is about to deliver, the kittens move towards the back end of mom and drop down a little. The other signs point to yes, it will be soon. Good Luck!!
