I usually try to avoid asking questions about race, but have you seen this video?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ7mmMe4klQ

Are we doing all we can to uplift our race? We can no longer play the victim, we must all take ownership of our actions and do better from this point forward. After watching the video, how do you feel about the current state of Black America?

Update:

Both of you bring up great points. I am a mentor to children (ages 6 - 17) and I try my best to get them to see the world differently with regards to race and sex. Sometimes I feel as if my contribution is not enough because it breaks my heart when I see people demeaning others. I am just hoping that I have a positive impact on the lives of these children and that the impact trickles down into generations to come.

    Wow.

Okay--I'm a white woman. But this video is powerful.

Obviously I'm not qualified to speak about the state of Black America. I can speak about the state of American pop culture, though--and Black Americans are not the only ones who have given up their dignity.

I'm an Orthodox Jewish woman. Dignity is one of the things we strive for. Today's culture sure doesn't help, nor does it influence our daughters for the better.

At any rate--kudos to whoever created this video, and thanks for sharing it. It brought tears to my eyes, and I'm going to show it to my daughter.

its pretty sad that we live in a society that openly degrades women under the guise that they are just reporting on what is going on, as if they are a one way mirror incapable of portraying the true ugliness of the condition of black women, and all women for that matter. we men and you women are equally to blame in this scenario and there appears to be no real end in sight. but society ills hardly begin or end there, there are many questions we need to raise about our current condition that people have been to conditioned to accept. until people begin to accept truth as authority and not authority as truth we will never rise, and that goes for all people.
