why have games become more challenging and less fun?

It seems like games have gone towards challenging and harder puzzles and less fun. Even kids games have done that. My wife is a big Disney fan and we rent a lot of kids games and some we couldn't get through and they expect kids to do it? Only game that wasn't harder than it should be. Why are games becoming harder and less fun? Do they want you to throw and break the controller so you buy more controllers? Lol

I think your question is awesome!! I have played several games lately that make me wanna rip my hair out!! Zelda for the Wii was one of them. It doesnt tell you what to do at all and then makes everything one big annoying puzzle! I think games are turning in to this because they think they have to make them alot harder because they have better graphics. Go play Halo 3 for the 360, that game was actually challenging yet very fun.

  • Gaming industries, such as Disney, are starting to think their games are starting to get less and less challenging, therefore, they sell less games. So they vamp up the difficulty and expect more people to buy it. I've noticed this in several games. To be specific, my Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets game is really, really hard. The bosses in it are the most challenging, as they have a lot of power. Also, the enemies are a nuisance. In one level, you have to jump across rather large gaps, making it very difficult. To add to the trouble, there are about 7 or 8 ghosts circulating around that make you fall. I made it past that part after literally 20 or more tries.

I really think that the gaming industry needs to lessen the challenge of their video games, or at least put a consumer survey in the game boxes, so they can see what their customers think of their games.

Source(s): I own a Harry Potter game and many other challenging XBox games.

    You're obviously not a hardcore =\

2 things wrong with your question:

1, games aren't getting more challenging, they're getting too easy to even take the time to do.

2, the more challenging the game, the more fun it is, not the opposite, would you prefer a game that lasted a while, or one you could finish in 2 hours?

A solution though, would be to check reviews, gameplay videos, trailers, etc. before making a purchase, and also checking the ESRB rating

Playing video games requires specific skill sets. 30 years ago, no one possessed any previous knowledge about how to attack these specific types of puzzles. As such, games like Mario presented hours of entertainment as users adapted. A game like Mario coming out today would be trite. Games MUST become more difficult over time in order to maintain even a modest intellectual interest.

Games are becomming to easy. Kids are considered more "critical thinkers" than adults, and look for the simple method. Have you tried that?

They want people to play more and become more obsessed with the games and their products. It's easy to put down Tetris after you lose, but when you're in a multi-level, multi-character game, it's more tempting to keep going.
