3 year old has a UTI any suggestions?
Hi, my 3 year old has been peeing her pants and crying all day that her belly hurts and her pee hurts so I tested her with an AZO strip and it came out positive. She has an appt. with her doctor tomorrow but does anyone have any suggestions how to make her comfortable until she gets to the doctor? Thanks!

A warm bath. Let her soak as long as she wants. Give Motrin and tylenol.
If you give her Cranberry juice, make sure it is regular cranberry and not Cranberry juice cocktail. The extra sugar will only feed the bacteria.

Have her drink lots of water and cranberry juice! When I get a UTI, it feels better almost immediatly once I drink a couple glasses of cranberry juice. I feel so bad for her! They are so uncomfortable!! Let her take a nice warm bath, that might help. When I was younger I used to have chronic UTI's and my doctor said it could be from bubble baths so if she gets them a lot I would avoid using bubbles in her baths!

Poor baby, my heart goes out to you... my daughter is turning 4 next month and we just went through with it a few weeks ago..I actually took her to a all night pediatric center... I know she's in a lot of pain, my daughter had accidents the day I took her and refused to go to the bathroom...have drink LOTS of water and if you can get it in her the cranberry juice is great. If she won't sleep tonight because of the pain, take her to the ER.. I hope she'll go to the bathroom for you at the doctors office tomorrow we had to come home till she was ready to go again, and I ended up putting the cup they gave me in her potty to catch a few drops of urine..Good luck sweetie and the best of luck to the both of you...
How is she today?????

Oh, I feel bad for her! I had chronic UTIs when I was little. Since she said her pee hurts, one thing my mom used to do was get me a glass of water (cool to warm, whichever feels better) and when she goes to the bathroom have her pour it down there as she goes. It sounds silly, but it seems to work.
Then, I don't know if it will do anything overnight but if you're having her drink cranberry juice you can mix it with sprite or 7-up (I forgot to say, it should be diet b/c of sugar). I couldn't stand the juice, but I felt really important drinking the mix since its bubbly + pink.

The old stand by of cranberry juice to help start the healing process. But the bath my relieve more of the physical discomfort. See if the advice nurse or doctors office can give you some tips.

The only thing I can tell you is she is probably not emptying her bladder completely. Sit her on the toilet backwards, this opens her up a little more and tell her to go all the way until nothing more can come out. This might help her pain a little. It is worth a shot.

Give that girl some Motrin. I would also make sure she is getting lots of water to drink. Avoid surgery drinks.
