pungent odor?

i live in an upper level and there is an awful odor at the entry door (at ground level). it only goes up about 5 or 6 steps, then goes away. the building is on a slab and no central air is available. no floor drains nearby either. can anyone tell me what this smell is?

    Sounds like a dead mouse in the wall or under the steps. If so then the smell will go away in a few weeks, or you could try to find the dead mouse and remove it if possible.

    Perhaps you have a sewer near by. Or a dead animal decomposing.
