Egyptian users of the Egypt section of YA: Why don't you create a Yahoo group?

This is just a friendly question/suggestion - please don't take it otherwise.

I'm relatively new to Yahoo answers and have occasionally answered questions on the Egypt section. I could instantly feel the friendly atmosphere here and how the same faces keep popping up again and again - but I also couldn't help noticing how irrelevant so many (most?) questions are to the topic of Egypt and how puzzled many answerers were ("what does that question have to do with Egypt?" is a typical question).

Despite the entertaining nature of some Qs and As, doesn't this actually defeat the purpose of YA and distract from the relevant questions?

My suggestion is therefore to create a Yahoo group to discuss anything you like. The advantage is that you can actually DISCUSS with each other endlessly, get to know each other better, find and archive each others questions more easily etc.. There are in fact already thousands of Egypt groups, so you may even find it easier to join an existing group.

Update 2:

Eih ya Mohamed, why did you remove your supportive answer?

    I agree with Balsam's answer.

Personally, I like the Egypt section. It's more of a community than the other sections. Group are more selective and non-Egyptians (like Me) wouldn't stumble upon them.

This way, anyone one in the world can learn/answer/read not only about what you call "relevant questions" but also about Egyptian society at the micro-level. Learning and sharing opinions about music, fashion, relationships, culture, current events, etc. is just as important as a question about history or travel. The questions may not be directly related to Egypt as a country, but I think they are related to how Egyptians think, feel, and express themselves about events happening in their lives, their country and the world around them. Ergo, those questions are relevant and belong within the Egyptian section of Yahoo Answers.

Good Idea .. you didn't mention if you will be interested to join that group or not.

I see that what we have in Egypt section is very much related to travel. The special thing in Egypt when people visit, is not hotels or nature. It's that mix of culture and the personality of Egyptians. That is part of our contribution to the world [a special mix] may be few people can't understand it or feel it yet, but many already felt in love with Egypt for that magic.

By the way I work in tourism and much interested to ask and read about related topics. Once I posted a simple question about some services needed in Tourism, I could hardly get 2 or 3 answers regardless of the content.

I posted almost the same question in Africa at the same time, I got 1 answer not related to the question.

AL, if we had to live with the questions that are relevant to this section, we would die of repetition and boredom,

do you know how many times people from around the world ask exactly the same questions ? what's egypt's postal code ? what's the climate ? what should i wear ? what's the purpose of the pyramids ? etc..the section will dry out, there won't be many questions and there will certainly be a very very few answers

what is wrong with having a variety of questions, social, political, religious, just for fun...as for "what has this question got to do with .." you will find people wondering the same thing allover y/a

if it weren't for the few regulars this section will end up like some of the africa and middle east sections:

    "Drat. Nothing here right now.

Why don't you become the first to ask a question instead?"

who would want that to happen

we have a number of 5 pages max, and as it is, if there's an interval between questions, it gets quiet and boring

    then there's the egyptian character

people, communication and relationship oriented, it's in the veins..we're warm blooded :)

Actually most of regular users here are part of a group that one of the known users in this category created. We certainly could just use that group to ask questions and get answers among members, if I am not mistaken there are more than 25 members there and the number is continuously growing. I understand your point that most of the questions are not relevant to Traveling, however, this sort of "closed ties" among users is not something new here in Y/A. Occasionally I visit Lebanon and Philippines sections and what's happening here is not different from what's going on there.

About myself, I first noticed a question about health. I read the answer and I liked it. Then I started to browse in Y/A till I found the Egyptian category. Since then I became addicted to it as I liked the members here and feel that they are warm and friendly. I was not looking for a group or chat room, I just stayed with it. The reason maybe is that in this section you are free to appear when you like and disappear when you like. You have no obligation to anybody. In case you form a group, you will be kind of obliged to explain or tell more about yourself. I may be wrong. But you have a point.

    why not?

I accidentally came across this section when I was randomly answering a question about travelling then I found out about Egypt's section, though some of the questions aren't related to Egypt, they are more like questions about life.

We do have a yahoo group. We like to ask any sort of question here because we are all friends and know each other so we like to get the opinions of people we know on many different subjects. It really shouldn't annoy you. u gotta get used to it if ur gonna be around. Who follows the rules anyway!
