Are you happy or disappointed with your fall foliage colors trhis year?
What part of the U.S. are you in,N,S.E.W or central? I am in central Iowa and we are told the lousy colors are due to lack of rain and yet we are above average! Any ideas why in some places the colors are so blah?

Indiana, and the colors are great, although we didn't have as severe a drought as the southern part of the state. Also, temperature has a great deal to do with triggering color change in leaves. Once they know that fall is coming they stop photosynthesizing and storing the fuel from the leaves - hence the color change. Your lack of strong colors could have as much to do with temps as with water during the summer. (Dry winters will affect trees as well.)

I live in New England and the colors in my own area( White Mt's of NH) were the best I have seen in a few years. We have a lot of sugar maples that account for much of the pretty colors NE gets.

I am in Wisoncsin and we usually have beautiful fall colors and we have had plenty of rain so I don't know why but the fall just wasn't a fall this year....maybe we should blame it on global warming?! Smile!

dissappointed, the drought has had loads of our trees brown for mosst of the end of summer, and alot of the plants had a hard time recivering from our black easter frosty snap.
