What's a good vitamin supplement to give to dogs?

It depends on what you are feeding your dog, dogs general condition and any health problems. A good, natural, organic prepared food should have all the nutrients your dog needs. No vitamin/mineral supplement can replace a wholesome diet that is complete with what dogs need. However, many people supplement with xtra vitamins, just in case. A lot like a lot of people eat a well balanced diet and still take vitamin supplements. Some vitamins like vitamin D can become toxic in large amounts because the body cannot eliminate them very well. Dogs and people simply pee out the excess B vitamins. I give my guys Spectra. It's complete and good for us and dogs. Some minerals are not readily available to dogs. Dogs who are not getting the nutrients they need may eat stools and/or dirt. You can look up Spectra vitamins on the net for where to purchase and benefits and any adverse effects.

You shouldn't give your dog any vitamin supplements. Just buy a good brand food. it comes with all the right vitamins. Just went through the same thing with my 2 dogs.

Unless the vet tells you to use vitamins for a specific reason, you shouldn't use them. Dog foods typically have too many vitamins and minerals, and adding more throws them out of balance and can cause problems.

Dogs (just like humans) do not require vitamin supplements if they are getting the right food. The best food for your dog is something that is created specifically for your dog's nutrition needs such as Hills Science Diet. Never feed them 'human food' or vitamins.

If you feed a highly quality diet, you should never need vitamin supplements. Unless, you pet has a horrible medicial condition.

And no, the things at wal-mart or the grocery store are not quality.

I've been recommended ''Missing Link'', because it's easily mixed with the dog's normal food, and it's rather good!

I use it with my cat, and it seems to be pretty nice. They also have ''Missing Link Plus'', that has gluocosamine (sp?) to help joints.
