Christian Fundies/Creationists, how do you deny the science that proves a Noachian deluge is impossible?
To cover the Earth with 3 miles of water, a corresponding amount of atmosphere would have been displaced (into outer space.) As the atmosphere "boiled off", the lighter gases would go first, leaving a greater proportion of heavier gases, so why don't ice core samples confirm this changed atmosphere?
The amount of potential energy contained in the massive volume of water required to flood the Earth over 40 days (we're talking 5.5" of sea level rise every 13 minutes!) would release a HUGE amount of kinetic energy. The energy released by this much falling water would cause a subsequent temperature rise of almost 2700 degrees F. Water boils at 212 degrees!
A flooded planet means there are no plants left. Even the Cyanobacteria are dying. The life cycle has been temporarily broken. There is nothing left but slimy, gray slop. What did the animals eat once they were released from this ark?
Why do you hypocritically deny the SAME SCIENCE that you depend on in your lives, each and every day?

I don't deny science, I deny the lies that are told in a last ditch effort to try to hold on to a dying belief (ie the flood of Noah was a local flood and/or it just never happened)...
Question...If it was a local flood...why didn't God in His infinite wisdom just tell Noah to MOVE????
Question...If it never happened...why are there sea life fossils on the tops of every mountain????
Question...If all the mountain where flattened out, did you know that there is enough water in the oceans to completely cover THE ENTIRE EARTH with 1.5 MILES of water????
Question...If it never happened...how do you explain the vertical fossilized trees that bisect more than one sedimentary layer???
Question...If it never happened...why do the majority of fossils have their necks bent backwards???
Question...In regards to your 'even the cyanobacteria are dying' statement...ever heard that 'it is seldom appreciated how many airborne biotic particles are present in air, even under tranquil condition. Many types of spores (of fungi, ferns, bryophytes) are readily transported by air currents (Van Zenten 1983). (Noah's Ark a Feasibility Study, by John Woodmorappe, pg.139)
Question...If it never happened...why is it that every known civilization has an account of a global flood in it's history???
Science is proving the Bible true every day...maybe you should get a new science book =) I am a Christian and I have a Biology degree and I LOVE science. God was the first and still is the greatest scientist!
Hey Ignoramu...did you get a NASTY email from this questioner...I sure did...guess I hit a sore spot, how about you?

I love God and I love science. In reading the scriptures it not only says that the windows of heaven were opening (raining), but it also says that "the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up." (Genesis 7:11).
This implies that water from beneath the ocean floor was involved. In recent decades scientists have discovered hydrothermic vents on the ocean floor spewing water. They have also discovered even more recently that there are large amounts of water under the ocean floor. Some estimate there could be as much as 10 times more water under the ocean floor as there is on top.
Not meaning to dispute your hypothesis, just saying look at the scriptures again involving the source of the water, and look at some of the new scientific discoveries.

Outside of the fallback "God isn't bound by the laws of science,"...
It's much more likely that it was a local flood... the Mesopotamian basin is geographically an ideal place for such an event.
And honestly, it's more likely that Noah just got washed out to sea for his whole voyage, and the same storm that took him out to sea also washed him back to shore a year later.
EDIT:
Moses didn't even know about the highest mountain, considering it was in SE Asia.

First off, I'm not disputing your statement. But:
Where did the three mile figure come from?
Why would adding water to the Earth cause the atmosphere to boil off? Meteors and meteoric dust add several tons to the Earth each year, but we aren't losing atmosphere to it.
I'm not sure why the additional gravitational potential energy would release kinetic energy. If we were talking about adding a three mile thick spherical shell of water to the Earth, I could easily see that disrupting the Earth's tectonic structure, triggering massive earthquakes and volcanic activity. Is that what you're talking about?
Your point about the plants is reasonably well-taken, although obviously marine plants would survive, and I expect seeds and seed pods from landforms would also survive. Perhaps the animals could survive on dying marine vegetation until new plants could germinate and grow. And, I would point out that some of the animals could live off each other, although that raises a new set of problems.

Orthodox and Conservative jews believe the same thing; in fact, that's the origin of the whole mythology. I'd ask them, since they claim to be the greatest scholars on Genesis. Fundies are very well-educated.

Where did 3 miles of water come from?
Your theory on atmosphere boiling off has no validation.
Potential energy, yes. Latent heat would only be released on evaporation, not rain.
Flooded planet, yes. Plenty of life teems in marshes that are crucial to clean water and existence of micro bacteria required for plant life.
I don't deny science, but then again I do not have to make it up as I see fit.

Even the Summerians have a flood story you are assuming that it was Earth wide. there is evidence of a flood that happened in that area. The people of that area would not know if it would be world wide. They did not even know North America existed.

This is a fantastic bunch of information. I am afraid that, as usual, it is falling on deaf ears, blind eyes, and dumb.... well, you get the picture.
I used to spend a lot of time and energy trying to show them how totally ridiculous a literal belief in the contents of the bible is. I got what you got here: ignoring the facts, dancing sweetly around the truth by saying Jesus loves me, and the ever popular god can do anything......
I gave up on this a while ago. It stopped being worth it when they wouldn't even TRY to address my question, after all the effort I would put in. I must admit to getting vicarious pleasure reading yours though. Almost makes me nostalgic, sort of like I want to try it just one more time and maybe this time...
Naw.......... they will never budge until they get real, and the hard core will live and die in their version of truth, and never get real, in the hopes that their imaginary god and their adherence to the illogical dogma will save them from eternal non-existence, to them a fate worse than hell, because at least in hell, they would supposedly continue to think and be.

You know your statement makes plenty of sense. After reading some of the replies I could not help but laugh at some of them, especially the ones that stated that god can do anything. I truly find that kind of comment silly. Hear me out, they say god can do anything and yet when you pose the omnipotence paradox to them they get offended and upset. Then when you ask if god can do anything then why doesn't he show himself, or why didn't he stop 9/11 from happen and other tragic events, they give you cop-out answers like gods will, only god knows or it is not for us to question gods action or lack of action and of course the famous cop-out answer free will.
So you see when you apply logic to religion and god it just does not add up.
Science on the other hand makes sense from a logical point of view and has reliable, creditable and plausible evidence to support any and all of its statements.
Bring on the thumbs down believers

His world was "the world" or as it was phrased "covered all the Earth" or whatever. Here in Arkansas, for some people the county where they live is their whole world. Ergo - to Noah his whole world was covered in water.
