Is a small Holmes electric heater safe to operate while sleeping?
I can't bear the thought of filling up the oil tank at 3 dollars a gallon (or thereabout)
We are trying to use the space heater as much as possible . We have one in the living room and one in the bedroom.
How safe are they? I am afraid a fan will stop and cause a fire or something.

If you aren't using it on an extension cord, if you have it placed away from the wall & furniture and anything else combustible, there should be no problem. I'd make sure your smoke alarms have fresh batteries. It appears most house fires are caused by people who misuse the space heaters (curtains catch fire, electric outlets overheat etc.)

They are safe if you make sure they don't tip over.
I'm using one myself since 11 years (one as a spare) in connection with a wall thermostat, just for my bedroom.
For the whole house during the day I still use oil, because it is still cheaper than electricity, which went up quite a bit too.
Holmes heaters, like all others have a thermo-fuse, in case it gets too hot the fuse will give and the heater is finished, because the repair would cost more than a new heater.
Never mind on the use of extension cords if these or the connectors don't get warm (hot) then there is nothing to worry about.

I used a great space heater to survive and expensive winter last year - it automatically turned off if it tipped over. They dont last forever thought and the blower is a potential hazard.
For more constant use a stand up plug in the wall oil hear is rockstar. Mind the extension cord requirements, but they keep everything very constant and, as an added bonus, you can safely dry your towels on them.
Makes me want to go dig mine out of the basement.
Hope the sapce heater use doesnt jack up your electricity so much the oil would have been cheap by comparison.

You should be ok, we use a couple of the little ceramic heaters one in the family room and one in the hallway between the two bedrooms, they have a automatic shut off if they get knocked over, we have used them for years with no problem. Don't use with extension cords.
