Whats wrong with my Transmission?
When it gets warmed up it slips and won't shift.
This started a week after I was driving down the freeway and my car slipped into nutral while in motion; then I put it back in drive. I was told this would not cause damage.
So what's wrong with my transmission?
It's a 93 Plymouth Colt Vista

I'm assuming you've checked the gearbox oil? So many auto problems are due to dirty oil, or lack of oil. If you have, it could be that the gear linkage assembly is not adjusted properly. I'd take it to a garage and get them to check the linkage adjustment. If all is ok there, the third and most expensive option is that the overdrive unit is about to give up, which involves opening the gearbox casing and renewing the unit. I hope it's one of the first two things. Good luck

The transmission isn't disengaging each of how until eventually now the kit synchronizor locks the main acceptable shaft. that's brought about by capability of worn synchronizers ,a worn or out-of-adjusted take carry of, or each now and then the two. On hydraulic slave cylinder structures: A leaking seal interior the slave-cylinder might reason the fluid interior the reservoir to pass down , inflicting air to get into the device. And basically like a brake device with air, the peddle should be pumped to get the slave cylinder rod prolonged adequate for the take carry of to disengage. seem for a leaking slave cylinder, &/or very low fluid interior the take carry of reservoir If there is not any leaks , then i could attempt the take carry of adjustment first if there is one. 1st & opposite are a similar kit ratio because of the fact they artwork off a similar shaft. that's why they the two grind.

on the cheap:
The oil filter on these cars almost never gets changed. and the oil is really old. this causes a clog and prevents the oil from flowing evenly. change oil + filter and re seal with gas kit sealant the pan when you put it back.
its also that the over drive could be the one slipping because its the higher gear . what i did on my old Volvo was to unplug the over drive power cable and drove the car on 4 gears for the next 80k then sold it.
the car is not worth a rebuild. its over 10 years old. just get it going, run as far as you can and sell it . wally

First thing to do is drain the transmission oil and replace the in gear box filter. If that does not solve the problem then its time for a re-build.

Check the fluid level.
If you want to play you may want to change the filter in the oil pan. 10% chance. Usualy it is too late and the damage is done.
There are no adjustments here, and the transmission has to be rebuilt.

check your transmission fluid. On transmissions is really hard to make a diagnostic without takin a closer look

Something needs to be tested. Call your mechanic now. This will get worse over time. Now it may be simply tightening up bands but it may become bigger sooner

its your transmission. its bout to go. you can spend alot of money to fix it or get yourself a new car .. better off wit the new car

Probably a lot of miles. Your bands are shot. Get it rebuilt or replaced.
