Does is bother you when the asker chooses the worst answer as "Best Answer"?

Case in point:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApuOU...

Here is an example of the asker overlooking many intelligent answers to find the only other bigot that posted an answer so she could agree with her. Should we have the ability to override the selection of "Best Answer"? Should the criteria be changed so voting selection has preference over the asker being able to choose? How about if the thumbs down outnumber the thumbs up you arent eligible for Best Answer?Any other thoughts??

    I really do dislike that.

I saw a question some time ago where the asker asked this really intense question from an attacking viewpoint (it was meant as an attack, but was a good question anyway). It was directed specifically to athiests.

I, and many other people, wrote nice, long answers to the question, directly answering it. Not only did she not choose one of those, but the "best answer" s/he chose didn't even address the question! It just agreed with the asker. At least your example the best answer Does answer the question, however marginally.

I think it does matter, because the Best Answer percentage on a person's file is designed to give an idea of whether or not they just answer questions for pts, or otherwise arbitrarily, or actually honestly sit down and give real answers. I saw a guy with 43%! Crazy!

I agree, I think it would be a good feature if in the "resolved questions" section there was an "override" button to shift it into voting instead, if enough people choose to override it.

Unlike an above answer, its not just about points. It destroys the purpose of YA, and skews the numbers that some people do care about, when that sort of thing happens.

I am reminded of a great line in a movie: "Let him rave on that men may know him mad."

The truth is, most people are not here asking sincere questions and soliciting helpful answers. They have an agenda and they are seeking validation. So they choose the answer that validates them. Makes them feel better in their own bigotry.

Hence, the line from the movie above. When they choose the worst answer, which answer reflects their own ignorance or bigotry, both the asker and the "best answerer" are merely showing their colors. They are raving on. We will know them mad. Yes?

So let the criteria be. So that they can rave on.

It is pretty dumb, but I guess the asker can do whatever he/she wants.

Your thumbs idea would negate the asker being able to choose--it would basically be the same as the "put it to a vote".

I, personally, would be happy if people would quit asking inane questions that they already "know" the answer to, just to hear people agree with them. But, again, it's not against the rules to be a dumb@$$.

you're able to attend 4 hours in the previous you could vote for suitable answer. a blue button will instruct below each answer. prefer to your suitable answer and click the blue button below it. then you could value with a million-5 stars and go away a remark. you will get 3 factors for balloting. you have as much as 4 days to vote in the previous it is going to an area vote. If its an different individuals question which you fairly desire to vote on you desire look ahead to 4 days or greater then return to the question and vote you will get a million element for balloting.

I don't care so much either, the asker can choose whichever pleases her/him. I'm here to see all the Q's/A's I can and some are pretty idiotic, but that's just one person's opinion. I'm sure many think the same of mine!

it would be good if we could report it and they can get warned by yahoo answers, but i guess yahoo doesnt want to spend that much money on this case .

the problem is really that alot of people are not that smart. they usually just have nothing better to do and just want to feel like they are worth something once in a while by having someone agree to them.

but i guess it makes them feel as good as getting their questions a good answer to,, maybe it has done as much good for them as it would have if they recieved any answer...

isnt that the goal of this place anyway...

    That's a pretty good example.

At one level it bothers me a little, but to the extent that it confirms my expectations of humanity, it's reassuring in a rather dark way.

Like Captain Vimes: even when I'm at my most cynical, I occasionally find I'm not being cynical enough.

Kind of like when I get thumbs down for answering very honestly, technically, and provide sources for my answers... yet the simple mention of "God" makes so many people think my answer is not right, when everything else stands to fact...

  • No this section especially is just about voicing opinions in the forms of questions or answers. Every now and then you get to learn from one of them, but you have to search through all the answers to find it.

The wonderful thing about the web is that there is freedom to disagree and even freedom to be stupid for all of us..

It doesn't really 'bother' me, but it is mildly irritating when someone picks a stupid answer when other people have gone to the trouble of coming up with intelligent responses.
