Would a Pastor knocking on your door help or hurt your chances at coming to church for the first time.?
I guess the question could be does door to door evangelism or invitation still work? Please give your age and the type of community you live in.
Also, how many hours per week should a full time pastor put into the ministry? I am averaging about 57 and I feel like it should be more, my wife however, thinks it is quite enough :-)

It would depend on your presentation, what type of congregation you have and whether or not I thought it was the right type for me (if I didn't already have a home church I was happy with).
As far has how many hours a full time pastor should be putting in that should be between you and God. If you feel like you should be putting more time in then that might be God telling you to get busy. There is always so much to do, often much of it gets put on the shoulders of the church volunteers. One important but often overlooked task, is making sure the spiritual needs and support of your volunteer staff are being met.
I live in a rural community, attend a Cowboy Church, am old enough to have a 14 year old son, and happen to be one of those overworked volunteers lol.

Often we are lead by our own desires and issues. God has a purpose for us all.Jeremiah 29:11. If you spend much time doing what you think to do. You are putting your needs before God. Can a person tell you what you should do,when you have the spirit of the Christ living in you? Abraham had a wife that told him something to do at least 2 times. She made a mistake and the second time she corrected it. She sent her away. Yet God blessed her son also. But Isaac was the son of promise. I think you spend too much time walking and not enough talking to God. How can you spend time effectively with others if you do not spend time with the Lord and in his word. 40 hours a week is even too much. You will lack something.
Source(s): You have to know it is God that does the works of salvation. God gives us the direction to come and go and speak to people that are ready to recieve a word. Even in nursing, you can not teach a person anything about managing their health or decease.Unless they are ready to learn. So we pray and ask God please send me someone that I can help and let my ministry be effective for you Lord. Do you love your wife? She is your help mate right? So maybe you should ask her opinion sometimes. God's spirit works in ways that the natural man or woman can never understand. God knows us and he knows you. He has a intent for each one of us. Does it matter what age a person is or what neighborhood they live in. God does not care about that. Obediance and mercy is God's mandate for us. Evangelism and invitation does work only in God's cases. Can anyone take credit for what the Lord has done? God does the electing and God does the choosing. It is good that you have so much zeal for the King of life. But we must seek the kingdom first and God will give us wisdom regarding the needs of men and women.God gives the gifts of discernment and love. It is never by our power nor by our might. It is only by God's spirit is anyone saved. God does the preparation for that person to accept you at that door. God changes the heart and intent of men and women. If you put God in it, it will never hurt the chances of anyone coming to him. God says my house shall be a house of prayer. So it is and so it shall be. Thank God for his unfailing love towards us all. John chapter 17. Jesus prayed. - Anonymous1 decade ago
I had a pastor knock on my door and landed up going to his church for a short time. As a lady, I think that 57 hours is more than enough. I think that God wants us to put our family before ministry, but this is my opinion. Kids also need their dad to be their for them. My dad was not a christian, but spent alot of time working. We resented him as children for this for along time, so did my mom. I think that most Christians are very immature and rely on their pastor more than they do God. It is time that we in the body start to grow up, so the pastor can take care of the babies and the newcomers and devote themself to ministry of outreaching.

It would seriously turn me off, and I'm a lifelong Christian. If I want to visit another church, then I'll go visit it. No doorbell ringing required. I really don't like people coming to my door trying to proselytize me. I don't do it to others, and ask for the same respect in return. You asked about age and neighborhood...I'm in my early 20s, and live in the Southern U.S. in an older, slightly run-down neighborhood with lots of retirees. As for how many hours you put in, that's between you and God. Be reasonable, though. Don't neglect your loved ones just because you're a minister.

I don't believe knocking on people's door is the best way to present your ideology. Most people hide inside their own homes when Jehovah Witnesses come knocking on your door. There is a reason for this.

Already been to church for the first 35 or so years. Anyone coming to my door that I don;t know personally is completely unwelcome - Just so you don't fill persecuted, that applies to politicians and salespeople as well.

I would be forced to use SARCASM. And if that didn't work, the Rune-Spear of Ishtar.
Anyone coming to my door with the specific intention of enticing me into a deranged fantasy that causes so much suffering already would be treated like a Nazi.

It wouldn't work for me personally, I don't open the door for anyone that I don't know, so he wouldn't get that far.
Besides, if I wanted to go to church, I could find one on my own. Same with my car insurance, long distace provider, etc.

I think our discussion would last about five minutes, at which point the pastor would run from me like a scared rabbit.

It would increase his chances of needing an oral surgeon.
I'm 52 and live in a blue collar community with good neighbors.
