How old were you when you got into NASCAR?

Who was your favorite driver at that time?

I myself got into NASCAR in 2003 at the age 32! Yup I was a late bloomer! LOL

But my favorite driver then is still my favorite now, Dale Jr!!!

I like his personality and the fact that he almost always admits when he's done something wrong and appologizes for it.

Update:

Butterfly there are no wrong answers or thumbs down in this question. We all have our favorites to like and dislike, but we should have repect for each and every driver that tepmpt fate every week all for the sake of entertainment.

Update 2:

WOW such great answers and lots of interesting tid bits of history. I think we all could have done with out the driver bashing, but I've enjoyed all the answers!

Thanks!!

We listened to racing all through my childhood. My father use to work security when Lowes Raceway was referred to a Charlotte Motor Speedway. My sister was a Miss Winston in the late 80's. There use to be a picture of her and Bill Elliott at the racing museum at Talladega when he won his big race.

I was 8 back in 1959. Started buying stock car racing books or magazines. Racing was never on the tube back then. My parents would go to there parents every weekend and the drive took us through a town that had a magazine store that had racing mags. They would let me get one once a month.

I personally think everyone before they become the experts that they are do some reading a research on how racing is and was not how it is in today's NA$CAR. It is a real shame what has happen to a top notch series like NA$CAR.

There are many other great series out there too. If you really want to see some racing just flat out getting it non stop watch the V8 supercars. Nothing like it. SOOOOOO good.

I like Dale Jr. too and for the reasons you like him and because his father was my hero. Not so much for his actions on the track as for things he did for other drivers that he wanted to help. One race he slowed down and let Dave Marcus pass him and lead the half way lap so he could get the Gator Aid challenge money. I think it was 5 or 10 grand. Lets see one of this bunch do this today. Never happen.

Welcome to racing and be sure don't get brainwashed like so many newbies have become today.

I got into it when I was 31. I had been a casual fan before that but had other priorities when I was a younger man. I was working at a place where they had a Winston Cup pool. It was $5 a week and they flipped cards for your number. Whatever number you got was for all the cars that ended with that number (0-9). I started paying more attention to see if I won but really got hooked after learning more about the strategies and drivers. My first favorite drivers were Mark Martin and Dale Jarrett but I was not THAT big of a fan then. When Elliott Sadler started I really liked him also. I met my wife in the summer of 2001 and was getting into racing more and more. We watched Jimmie Johnson's first few races at the end of that season and we have been huge fans of his ever since. GO JIMMIE!!!!

I watched all kinds of racing growing up, but never really followed any of it.

When I was in the Marine Corps, I got stationed in North Carolina in 1992 (I was 19 years old). Ironically, this was Jeff Gordon's first year. I started really following it in Gordon's first "real" season (1993), and decided since I was a new fan I'd go with the new driver. He was about my age, had a different looking car...and seemed to be a good driver.

I was born in a family that was already in Nascar, my dad and uncle were officals my uncle had a son that raced modifieds back in the 60's, I grew up watching them get the cars ready in our garage at home...My mom would not let me go to a race until I was 11 y/o just because of language and drinking at the tracks..But I was born with it in my blood, and I've been a fan all my life...My favorite driver is Dale Jr..

    Go Dale Jr.....win Texas

I was 9, in 1989, My dad has followed Mark Martin his entire Cup/Bush career, I really like the guy too. It's hard to pick another Driver that I like cuz Mark is such a classy guy.... I have to think long and hard about who my next favorite driver will be.

Was 16 and seen Mark Martin race dirt. He was a local boy and just followed his career. Mark has always been #1 followed by Davy Allison and Allan Kuwicki. Had the opportunity to have lunch with Allan when he was breaking into Nascar . What a super guy.

Better late than NEVER! I've been a MAJOR NASCAR fan since college. I was a fan at the local tracks way before that. Dale Sr. and Alan Kulwiki, the Allison's were my fave's back then. Now I am a die hard Jr. fan, since he started in Busch. Smoke is on my list as well. They are a good contrast in personalities. Each has qualities I like.

    Go Jr.>>>>

It started in 1977 when I was 13. My absolute favorite was NASCAR Part-timer and Indy Car legend A.J. Foyt. I also liked Darrell Waltrip.

As Waltrip's career started winding down, I became something of fan of Rusty Wallace for a bit.

Became a fan of Gordon about '95.
