I can't sit down when getting blood extracted. explain please?

I went to the hospital yesterday to make an appointment for a heart surgery to get rid of my WPW. While I was there they said I need to get my blood extracted before the surgery which I will be having soon. However while they were extracting my blood my vision went almost black and I couldn't hear, My body was numb and my head went warm and I almost passed out. However I have had my blood extrracted before when i was laying down in the hospital and I was fine. Blood does not bother me at all. But the doctor began to explain why I almost fainted however I was so messed up at the time I hardly knew what he said. All I can remember him saying is that I had Lay down in the future when getting my blood extracted and I went dizzy because my blood couldn't go against gravity. So can you please explain to me why this happened and if there is a name for this?

Update:

Let me make this clear one more time though. I can look at blood and be fine. Blood does not creep me out.

Update 2:

I dont think you guys understand the question. It has nothing to do with the placment on the needle. Its the way my body fuctions. My body physically can not extract bllod if I am sitting because no blood will go to my head. that is why I must lay down. If I lay down when it is getting extracted then the blood will lay out evenly and wont have to fight against gravit. Those symptoms I have like black tunnel vision and no hearing is a result of lost blood to the head. And if you wanted to know, they took the boold from the normal place, my arm (used left). All I wanted to know is if there was a more in depth reason for this and what its called. Lastly, Food has nothing to do with it, sorry.

Update 3:

Jeff, btw, the question the girl asked about eating is logical, she meant on wheather I ate or not. If you didnt eat and get a blood extraction that does make it easier to pass out. In fact every doctor in the room asked me that question once I felt better.

i sit down in a chair and have blood extracted from my right arm in the same place all the time (where ur arm bends). now, i mean you can extract blood from basically anyway on the body. it depends where the extracted ur blood, which, u dont share. if they extracted from ur chest and ur were sitting then yea, u obviously gotta lay down. again i cant explain. really. everyone is different.

EDIT: oh yea and to the person who said "did u have anything to eat today?

" what kind of stupid question is that? u dont black out from eating ham and cheese prior to extracting blood. i know b/c ive had blood extractions many times before. and ive eaten stuff prior.

EDIT2: also as a re: to dirty dave. thats a good idea if u can. have them extract from the butt. as weird as it sounds that is ur best bet. unless ur HAVE TO extract somewhere specific.

EDIT3: oh well at least i tried, ur body is just gay like that i guess.

Tell them to not extract the blood from your butt, then you should be able to sit down.

Have you eaten a meal that day? I would have asked the hospital staff...I'm a cancer patient and ask questions all the time.
