Do you think temporary employees are looked down on?

I have observed it several times. Those workers could have the same (or more) education and work experience as the permanent workers, possibly even management too. It is like there is a stigma attached to being a temp.

Update:

I think many of the permanent employees who act this way are insecure, especially if the temp is experienced and educated.

I think this happens because possibly the "permanent" workers think they are superior to the temps, and possibly that they are threatening their positions.

But this is unfortunate and quite saddening that any honest employee would be looked down on.

I don't think that they're necessary looked down on, I just got let go from somewhere I was classified as a "temporary employee" due to being outsourced to India, I didn't get looked down on, but we just didn't get the same benefits and things like that since we went thru a hiring agency, but I fit in just like one of the "actual employees" - But if we worked hard enough just like the regular employees, we would be offered a position in the company, and then get promoted and be officially hired by that company, well that's before they decided to take the services to India

I totally agree- they are looked down on, and most full time employees never extend themselves to the temp... I guess it's like the substitute teacher mentality we all had as kids.. must be lonely to be a temp!!
